How many of you get paid salary and is it worth it?My boyfriend gets paid salary,he use to get paid by the load until the company downsized the local side.Well he did the math this morning and if he was getting paid by the mile he would have made $200.00 more on next weeks check.Hes going to talk to his boss Monday. He's putting in a lot of hrs and this guy who was doing the same thing is now doing different runs and doesn't work as many hrs.Ray thinks kb took him off that run because he's slow deliberately. So he gets paid the same as Ray and doesn't have to run nearly as much. The first 2 weeks it was easy as pie and he was bragging about it.I told him just wait kb isn't going to let you have it this easy all the time, the owner will make sure of that.

That is a joke right? If i was paid salary I wouldn't run hard at all.... I mean I would slack off every chance and take my sweet time!! The bossman may then reconsider... lol or fire him. Could go either way eh?

I agree and I told him many times to quit working so hard, long before he started getting paid salary.Told him basically the same thing this morning. But hes one of those drivers that every company loves, never complains never late never misses.Maybe that will change though as time goes on.

Unfortunately I'm the same way, hard habit to break but hopefully if the company wishes to continue to abuse a good driver like that then he will do what's right for himself. I would just tell him to do the numbers, put it on paper and show the boss then give the boss an ultimatum or at least ask for room to negotiate. I didn't know there was even trucking jobs out there paying salary. Best of luck to the two of you

I'm seeing more and more companies that pay salary. They post that number and all eyes lite up.Little do they know salary many times pays less then getting paid by the mile.I use to be like Ray always motivated but then I was observing the slackers getting more respect this was at the same company ray is at,thats how him and I met.So anyway I started acting like all the other drivers and I was actually getting more respect, lol.

To me, salary and truck driving does not mix, except in very rare and special situations and especially where logging is also required.

It may start out great [for the driver], but the laws of business say it will quickly change and not in the driver's favor.

You said a mouthful there.Ray was on paper logs now hes on elogs and they keep a close eye on his logging making sure he takes that half hr brk.The other guy I mention that doesn't work as hard,kb talks to him daily about his logging and about ready to fire him.Guess hes going to have to take a logging class.Old habits are hard to brake.

Pretty much any segment of the trucking industry where there is a lot of stop/go or where a driver needs to drive slow (logging, oil patch and extreme heavy haul) should be paid hourly IMO. Not enough miles in those situations to make it worthwhile.

Patty, i am on a salary, since i am on dedicated. if Ray is slow as you say, then he needs to up his horsepower a bit, other wise the other guy will get the money.

also sometimes, down sizing means problems with the company.

Hi Anthony read my thread again, its the other guy who's slow and on purpose which leaves ray with more work then Mr molasses and both get paid the same.besides his pay he's also going to talk to his boss about evening out the work load.
