hoping to start school this fall. its a private school. a friend finished about a month ago, went with schnider. he said they wanted a contract, but he refused. they wanted him, so they hired him w/no contract. he's spending 3 weeks with a trainer, on his 2nd week now. btw,the wia program is a great way to get your training paid for.

Thanks for the company names. Here's what I'm finding with these company's:
May trucking: I didn't even bother calling. Their reputation is horrible. A simple Google search and I found all I needed. Pages of complaints.
    http://www.courthousenews.com/2011/02/17/34251.htm

    GTI:
sounds like a good company, didn't find a bad reputation and this is basic Info I got from the recruiter.
    Min. 160 Hr. accredited school.
28 days out with a drivers trainer at $325.00 a week.
    .30 a mile after orientation
    KLLM:
Min. 160 hr. accredited school. I didn't find any complaints.
    4-6 weeks with a drivers trainer @ $400.00 a week.
.32 cents a mile after orientation.
    Passenger policy: Yes

Thanks again for the company names. I will check in to the company's if you throw the names out here. That's the beauty of being in your position. Unlike us noobs, you have been out there and know what's up. I just don't want to make any more mistakes and end up screwing myself over. I may end up looking at Watkins Shepard after I have the experience to do the job correctly.

    jamesd503 and ac120 Thank this.

Most companies should have a rider policy. Usually they require some money down for insurance. Only problem with the rider policies is that you can only have a rider with you during the summer months.

Have your wife get her license! This will solve that problem and you will make bookoo bucks! Why have her ride with you for free and drive you nuts!

AmericanTrucker is an exception! Don't burn yourself by not going with a trainer. You aren't going to make a dime wondering around the country trying to figure it all out by yourself!

the courthouse news article you found is bogus.
this whiner's case will be thrown out, cuz he doesn't know what he is talking about.

he doesn't understand how to use com data, and believes he is getting paid by the hour.what he states his case on ,could be said about every co. out there.this guy should go back to McDonalds cuz he's just not trucker material.
i'm out with a may trainer, and if you do your research you'll find they have very few legitimate complaints.
gordon trucking has an almost identacle law suit [ probably the same guy]against them in washington, yet they have a great rep.they also have a backlog of drivers trying to get on with them, so good luck there.
ya need to do some more reading.:biggrin_25523:

Do you resarch and make up your own mind, don't just listen to 1 driver. I've found a home here at Crete and they took me after being out of a truck for about 2-3years. Yeah I went out with a trainer (3 wks) training pay was $500 a wk and now noobs get .40cpm at 1 year. Not to shabby!

I was really trying to keep this thread geared towards good starter company's for us new guys. There are tons of material on bad company's and yes, I'm sure their here as well (chronic complainers that are on a mission to hurt a company Rep).

USX has one downside that I've been informed of, and it's the fact that their trucks are automatic and that the transition over to manual will be a #####.

Anyway, thanks to anyone who has advise for us noobs on the block.

Chompi, she's scared of it and say's she can't. That's good enough for me sense I would have to ride with her. lol Riding with her in the family car is enough to irritate:biggrin_2554: me... Naw... She would make a good passenger.

    Continue to research,

US Xpress now is changing over to manual shift (10 speeds).
