Bottom line, if you have not worked there, don't give company specific advice. Im not directing this at you, but everybody. The only way to know anything about anything is to have experienced it. Anything else is hear-say and should be taken as such.
And AT, you have been on here long enough and trucking enough to seperate the crap from the truth. -
Thanks all ... Alot of my family has at one time or another driven for Schneider , my grandpa dove for them all through the 1970's and 5 of my uncles through the 1980's & 90's and currently have two cousins, and they all say the same thing "it's a good job for newbies who are just getting their feet wet" manageable miles, good home time, but my cousins who drive for them do say they wish they had more miles, but they make fair money, and the benefits package is decent , and they have both driven for Werner as well as USA and said they are treated better by Schneider.....Hey and whats wrong with orange & black thems Harley colors......

If you take more than 3 day's home time, you "Will" have to clean out your truck.
There are limits on idle, but under extreme conditions, you can call in (or something like that).
Not saying they are a bad company, heck it's nice to get a bit of honesty from a recruiter, but the thought of western regional in the summer without aircon, that's a tough one.
Come on AT, nothing wrong with the color of the truck....
I spent some time on pumpkindriver site, not sure if drivers have lost interest, as some of the post are old, but there did seem to be a common theme regarding the Schneider family handing over control of the company and things changing, not so much for the better.
In my search for a company to start out with, I'd say Schneider is a good choice, just be careful, they have some weird deal at orientation; we had a student from the previous class at my school sit in on our log book training, he missed those day's or something, anyway's apparently he put in multiple applications on Schneiders website and was invited to orientation. He soon realized that he was put into the team category instead of solo and was told he would have to team for 6 months, as they do not allow any changes. They have solo openings, but they seem to be very compartmentalized, he hadn't even completed his second day and he could not switch. I ran this situation by the recruiter and she confirmed, the team recruiter got him first, he has to team.. His thread is below, if anyone is interested...
Still, Schneider is definitely not on the same page as Cr England, werner, crst..... 9 weeks driving team, oh sorry "Training"......not me...Though I'd love to meet that talented guy/gal that can train from the sleeper, I guess they do hire talent.
P.s. Once you pick a school, be very cautious of the school administrators motivations when assisting you with selecting a company, though they might not be under contract, I venture to say they have to get some sort of kick back, as my school conveniently failed to mention companies like Gordon, Central & Watkins....Not until we asked, did they say, oh yeah, they're good, I might know someone you ca talk to over there....
Anyways, 120+ hours school down and less than 40 to go and I'm hopefully on my way to Missoula, MT 8/22....Then the recruiters are just a distant memory, or a cold sweat nightmare...J/K everybody has their purpose in this world... -

Please explain this, I am looking at starting orientation with Central in 3 weeks. It was explained to me that Central provides the training at a rate of $3000, after you are cleared for solo driving you start paying back $25 per week for the 12 months obligated to the company. Once you clear that 1 year contract the remaining $1800 is forgiven.
Also I saw that Central requires the driver to have an account on file for $280 which is built up by $40 increments starting once you go solo. This account is for advances and any damage done by the driver.
Is this normal ? -

Update:
Back to square one! I went to Western Truck driving school yesterday to find that the only financing they offer is $2,000 up front and another 2,400 due in Pmt's starting 1 month after you graduate. Well... I don't have 2 grand and I'm running out of time here. I really don't want to sign a contract with a company school as I feel that is a big reason new drivers (first impression) end up hating the trucking industry and end up bad mouthing company's. My wife has never been real fond of this idea for employment anyway, but she is supportive as long as she can ride with some time in the near future. That alone says (Solo driver). Not the CRST contract team for 8 months. I have to weigh my marriage in to any decision I make here.
I did come up with a new line of approach to the schooling problem. Today I'm on a mission to locate every yard, terminal in the Phx. area that belongs to company's on the (good company list). I'm going to check in to getting on as a yard driver or any other position that may be available and then press the company to pay for my schooling. It may take longer to get out on the road but at least I'll have money coming in during the wait and I wont be under a nasty contract that I signed out of desperation.GuysLady Thanks this.
