Why don't you go over and talk with DATS? They are at 1845 N 27th Ave Phoenix AZ 85009 602-477-3000
    Website: http://www.datstrucking.com/

I worked for them out of So. Utah my last three years before retiring. They are generally a pretty good company to work for.

Big Don, I see they have 2 driving jobs listed, both require 2 years LTL experience. I will call and see if I can work some magic with em. Who knows, they may just have something open that could get me going in the right direction.
    Thank you!

I believe they do require experience for their class A drivers. However, they may, (or they may not in that terminal) have some class B/dock worker positions. If so, it MIGHT be a foot in the door.

No guarantees here of course. I've never had contact with that terminal, and it has been three years since I worked for them. There have undoubtedly been changes in that time.

I just wanted to stop in with an update on the situation.

I had an interview today with 1st Choice Moving. I got a good feeling from the interview and have a feeling I got the job. It's driving tractor trailer in the Western 11. I don't have to load or unload, just drive. It's not the grand a week we all get in this for but beggars with out their 160 hours of school time can't be choosers. At this point I would be driving with a Sr. driver for a while and getting my experience and time in. (At this point I'll do whatever it takes to get past this 160 hour school hurtle.) My buddy who drives for Martin called me a "Bed Bugger" . lol Fingers crossed, I was told "You will be hearing from me Monday." I hope that's either to go do a piss test, or go to work.

    I'm feeling good about it!:biggrin_255:

Even back 30 years ago or more you had to go to a truck driving school. There was few and most didnt teach you much . There was no need of the CDL. I wasnt going to pay 4 or 5 thousand for it. So I lied on the app. Got away with it..Next stop California..Good old days..

I've been thinking about trying to get on with central, But I am worried I won't get accepted because I was arrested for driving while suspended with no proof of insurance back in 2009. That was in Kansas, I live in Texas now with a valid drivers license since 6/2010 no tickets at all since 2009, a steady work history, and plenty of good references. If Central will not hire me are their any starter companies that might?

There is 1 exception to that rule i suppose that is when like us guys that came over from OZ i think i spent about an hr and all that was was just familiar rising ourselves with the course we would drive over for our driving test , i remember sitting for the knowledge test i mean its so common sense stuff i failed 1 section just booked another test the next day and passed it the following week was booked in for my driving test the following week i was out driving otr but hey thems the breaks i already had 8 years of driving semi's back in oz but even over here there is no set amount of hrs you have to drive if you have the skill to pass the test then you can do it as soon as possible.

Some of the companies I have researched say 18 or older on rider policy and during summer months 10 or older. The company I'm going to has this policy. I also have to pay insurance.
