TWIC stands for Transportation Workers Identification Card. Here's information on it: http://www.tsa.gov/stakeholders/transportation-worker-identification-credential-twic®
Most schools just teach you what you need to know, to get your license. Your real learning experience begins when you start with a company, and get on your own.
Central tech is a real school, not a cdl mill. $3000 for OK residents, can't beat that. $250 less if you're a veteran. Beg, borrow, steal to get the cash to go there. Do not get locked into a draconian contract with a cr england or Werner, etc. Also, get all of your endorsements you want( hazmat, tanker, doubles) Before starting school. This goes for passport and twic card as well if you will be considering companies that require them. Because you will not have time to get them once school starts and if you do your homework you will be starting work immediately upon graduation and with all of these in place you will be a lot more attractive to companies.
If you end up going to CDL school in another state then get all the endorsements except Hazmat. Your license will transfer everything but hazmat. You have to pay for the background check ad fingerprinting to get the Hazmat. You don't want to pay for that twice.
What? No where in what I said did it mention anything about getting a license in another state. The OP did not say anything of the nature either; however, thanks for the information though. It seems like every state has different regulations regarding Hazmat. Well, NY's does.
As a former trainer(many, many moons ago) the students I had from Central Tech in Drumright were the best. Trained for open deck company at the time. To apply for a TWIC card in OKC, the location is about 2 blks south of the TA on Council Road, west side. Best to have an appointment to apply!!
Thank you, I have applied at central tech and I was approved. Now I just have to eork out the tuition.
I graduated from central tech in drumright August 8th, I highly recommend central tech for anyone wanting to get their CDL and start a career in trucking. As of July the cost went up to 3250 for state residents. I got prehired by Conway Truckload and they will pay for half the school if you get hired by them. The only requirement is that you deliver one load after your training.
