Yes, made it in late last night. Ramada last night, and just got checked in to the luxurious Campus Inn a few mins ago.
jomar68 Thanks this. -
I ended up being checked in to a room that was already full and wound up at the Ramada last night. Just got my room at the Inn about a half hour ago.
Got to meet JimmyBones last night, great guy, took myself and another student to WalMart and out to dinner. He's full of great advice, I recommend any wannabe's read his thread in its entirety.
All said, this has been a great experience thus far. I'm only a couple days in, but the hound ride and early mornings make it feel like I've been here a month already. I'm adjusting quickly. 2 more computer modules and I'm all caught up. Speaking of... gotta' go!!newbietrucker007 Thanks this. -
Passed all of my permit tests today, also got my Tanker endorsement. I found that taking the exams on the tablets was much easier than the paper one I took.
So far all is well, went over to the Millinneum for just a second, but it looked and felt exactly like JimmyBones described it to me. A smaller scale international airport. Modern design, clean as a hospital, and happy folks milling about everywhere.
I really want to write some more about my experience thus far, but it has been brief and my eyes are too heavy to keep open at 8:10pm
This is only my third day, but this is work. Anyone coming in for a 'cake job' will be brutally awakened. Be prepared to wait. PATIENCE. The lines are long (some over 2 hours) to get things done, but Prime knows that and your schedule allows for it. Perhaps some folks could study in line instead of hooting and hollering with 'your boys' (that you met yesterday) and perhaps more than a third of the people would pass their permit test.
One thing that irks me about the human mindset is the need to fit in and be accepted. It is a waste of time in my opinion, and it does not benefit you when Joe-Bob is on his way back to Nowheretown, Alabama and his best friend of one day is going home to California. I hope you boys enjoyed your two days in America's most boring city, perhaps when you grow up a bit you'll opt to study and do something with your life rather than be the popular idiot for a week.
Rant and ramble over.
I'm really liking this company and I'm glad they're pickier than most! -
It's the first test. Passing the state CDL permit test.
Prime gives you the manual and tells you to study. Study by yourself or study in a group. Study, study, study some more. That's all the help you get.
Passing the permit test is really the proof to Prime that you want be there.TNhellbilly Thanks this. -
Btw Springfield is not Americas most boring city. Where do you think Chinese Cashew Chicken was invented? China?
Nope. Springfield, Mo.
Look it up.newbietrucker007 and TNhellbilly Thank this. -
I agree 100%. I determined quickly that they appreciated my interest, but that I was lower than the base of the totem pole until my permit was passed. I have no problem with that. I am now officially the dirt covered in cigarette butts at the bottom of said totem pole.
Side note; There were a few questions on the paper test I didn't find on TR's practice tests, but those answers were in the Missouri CDL book. -
Well, there is Sassy Red's down the street, but that's not a visit for training time (or EVER.)
I came to SpringMo in 1996 and 1998 for some art/music competitions during high school. Being from Cincinnati, OH (not the world's largest or nicest city) I thought SpringMo was the middle of a field. I've since called it the most boring. Completely a joke, but not super far off.

You know those "2-hour lines" you mentioned? That's a test too...
TNhellbilly Thanks this. -
I don't mind at all. It is a nice time to study, meditate, and get back in my own head.
I appreciate the way things are ran, here.
