been stuck many times. if your company is reporting it as an accident, then they are retarded, and not worth driving for. I guess it all depends on circumstance: if you are trying to pull a u-turn, are jackknifed across a road, and get stuck on the other side, then it's on you (still not an accident, tho).

If you are delivering to a mudpit, or are in snow, or get your truck blown over by wind, cmon. It's not all on the driver. Sometimes its on mother nature.

Our company is the same way one of our drivers was charged with a accident for getting stuck . So I was stuck at a old dirt lot and found a local tow company in the phone book and payed the 100 tow fee . Well worth not getting charged an accident in my opinion..

so there you go.A well thought out decision and no repercussions.KUDOS driver for being able to do a little critical thinking, maintaining status-quo.Fairly simple concept that many drivers are not capable of it seems-

Question. Do you roll your landing gear ALL the way up?

I ask, because I don't. I stop a couple of inches short. And I've had folks comment on it.

Its saved my bacon more than once.

    How so?

Because a lower landing gear is more likely to hit an obstruction.
And a couple inches down won't help much if you pull out without being hooked properly.

Werner put it on my dac for getting stuck.
I was bobtailing on the 395 to nevada and was running out of hrs.
i was not going to make stateline and the casinos to park so i pulled over on a large dirt area to sleep. When i got up to leave the tires just spun, turned out it was old river bottom dirt. my fault for stuck. no cell service so i sent a message on the qc and they sent a wrecker to pull me out.

When i went to see safety about it a few weeks later they said Omaha was calling it a "Property Damaging Accident" because it cost them money. It is on my dac now too. I quit for other reasons too but they put me down as on a 30 day leave in hopes i'll come back, not a chance.

No damage to truck or environment. Like i said they had to pay for a tow out so they consider it a property damage accident. i am fighting it with werner but not holding my breath.

A compact truck could have pulled me out, it was just a lack of traction.

All good points. But I use it as a gauge in slow manuevers in screwed up lots and crossings. If it hangs at the top of a hump. You can retract the remaining, and go over it. If it hangs lets say, half way up the hump. You retract and back off it.

All this is worthless if you hit it at speed. Cuz yer just stuck then lol.

As far as dropping one. I've had them hit the frame. Never the ground. I'm not in a race when I drop a trailer. ;)
