Ditto on FF but it's not CC's responsibility. :) Maybe the other CC.

Unless you have snow days in MS, there is no excuse for cancelling class. I would definately talk with the office. You paid to get trained in X amount of time and they have to hold up to their end of the bargain or refund your money.
He can be pulling a fast one that the college is not aware of.

One man, one truck...that's how they do it at our local CC as well. The instructor is a good guy, and it's his only job; he's not part-timing anywhere else. His goal these days is to stay out of the truck, not get back in it! :biggrin_2559: The course runs 4 days a week, and takes 14 weeks.

So, if there are six students (typical class size), you might get an hour in the truck per day...and spend the rest of the time standing around watching, or practicing PTI. Then there's downtime for severe winter weather; days when you're not in the truck at all

So there's a reason it takes 14 weeks...lots of unproductive time. $2500 for this training sounds good, vs. $5k or so at a mill, or company, but there's the tradeoff...they don't have a fleet of trucks and a bunch of qualified driving instructors waiting around.

    Pick your poison!

Yes, if its a community college I would definitely speak up! I thought you meant this dude was teaching you out of his garage or something! Why the hell should you pay all that money to learn when the instructor isn't there! Tell the college you want a refund for all the days this guy wasn't there. It would be one thing if there was another instructor or if the guy was ill for a day. Get on him!

ok, now that you clarified the situation, which i think you should have done in the very beginning, (but maybe you did in another thread??) at least now you have a valid gripe about this....go to the office of the college and lodge a formal complaint, if not done now then when..?? after you graduate its a bit too late wouldn't you say...??

you see, here-in lies a problem i have spoken about many times, and that is passing off responsibility to someone else....like that group of truckers at a truck stop all biotching about how bad things are and how things ought to be fixed, but yet when each trucker leaves the "discussion" each one says, "i ain't got the time, i let the other guy take care of it, i gotta go, i got work to do".....and as a result, NOTHING ever gets done......its passing the buck to someone else..

here you are, biotching to us about your instructor, well then ######, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, or DO NOT BIOTCH ABOUT IT.....in effect, you are passing the buck to yet someone else, who probably will not do anything either.....i tell ya, it's a very vicious cycle that NEVER ends unless someone grows "a set" and steps forward to make corrections..

good luck, i wish you well, but if you DO NOT graduate when you are supposed to, i'm sure you will be back to say something about that too.....when you COULD HAVE gotten it all cleared up........NOW....!!

I didn't consider this a gripe, more of a do I have the right to grip or should I. Tomorrow he has planned a big lunch for his bosses, students from another campus and some recruiters. The campus administrator is a friend of mine, I gave him a call and asked about what days there have not been any instruction the past few weeks. Then mentioned my concern with the amount of days etc. He can't be blunt with me if the instructor is skipping out because that would make the school look bad. What I said is enough, going any further on my part would be counter productive. If he looks into it or not that is the schools reputation.

Yeah, Dude, talk to the higher ups and find out what goes. He could possibly be volunteering to teach newbies and that would give him a green light to show up when he feels like it.

YES....YES YOU DO HAVE SOME RIGHTS, REGARDING YOUR TRAINING.....!!

your "so - called friend" is side-stepping the issues at hand....what kind of friend is that, one that will throw you a boat anchor if you go overboard...????

i hope your friend actually does something, as there are drivers out there that would like to get off the road for a while and do something else, and some may want to try teaching.......whatever......good luck to you.
