Its a gimmick radio and should be returned for a more trusted unit.
Much like the Connex 3400,useful as teats on a boar hog -
Canuck, I think youve been watching too many monster movies. But that did give me a chuckle.

oh sure---you say you dont believe in the zombie hordes---but deep down inside you know they are out there
they only come out late at night--and at the truck stops
or at walmarts -
Tater, all I require is to hear and be heard. I found this particular unit attractive and bought it. It has the same basic guts as a 29LTD, which was a reliable until recently. Looks like I only need to get that chip removed. I don't see any sense in spending the kind of money it takes to get a Galaxy and all the BS that comes with it and I have no need at all for 200 watts.

I think there is a setting on these radios that will cause the weather alert activate even if the radio is off. Do you have it set for that but not know it?

If you are into snackin then they all would be worth it, however, most would not be very filling.

Well, I got rid of the "ghost." Since the radio needed a bench tune anyway, I asked what needed to happen to shut the weather channel up. Actually, it was pretty simple. (After the tech got over his belly laugh and showed me a fairly impressive pile of weather channel boards and told of all kinds of stories from drivers about the auto-alert, including one individual who claimed it was the FBI spying on him.) He looked inside my radio. No external channel board. It is now integrated into the main board.
There are two wires going to the antenna. One is a thick grey wire, the other a thin yellow wire. He clipped the thick grey wire and sealed off the bare end. No more weather channel. And no more getting the &$%# scared out of me on a peaceful night with the CB turned off. And, thanks to the bench tune, my radio now throws 25W, up from 4. More than enough for me.
In the process, though, I found out the pretty wood-grain Cobra microphone I had purchased for $60 to replace my Wilson with the dog-chewed wire was a POS. I took it in with the radio to find out whether it was part of the reason the general response to my transmissions was, "What'd she say?" The dog-chewed Wilson is now reattached to the radio. Until I can replace it once more.
Suggestions as to model of microphone are welcome, keeping in mind I have no use for echo, beeps or other irritatingly distorting effects. I simply want a clear transmission that doesn't sound like I'm talking into a tin can or an empty shower room. -
Oh, no, not another one of those "The FBI is spying on me!!!" tweakers...
"Yeah, those are voices you hear coming from your television, and the government DOES put microchips in your food!!!" BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Gol-durned tweakers!!!
Injun and scottied67 Thank this. -
