You should be more embarrassed trying to explain why you have csa 2010 points on your record for burnt out lights

I wouldn't have the points....because I am not scared to fix such a small little pittley problem myself, instead of calling for a service truck like a 3rd. grade girl.

The majority of Gillster trucks I remember seeing are old FLD 120's and Pete 377's....and those trucks are not even manufactured any more.

Where do you carry your extension ladder to be able to get to the front top marker lights?

It was obvious to me that was what the driver meant. By the by, do you carry a replacement light for every different trailer you pull? S'posed to!

Only time I ever carried a ladder of my own is when I pulled flatbed.
I used to be able to talk TA Truck Stop garage personel into letting me use their steps (just be nice). And I carried my own small tool box with your basic tools in it.
And no....did not carry an assortment of lights----but truck stops did.

Anything major or messy....I made a phone call. Lights, mud flaps, air line issues, etc... I fixed on my own so I could get rolling again.
Some service trucks can cost $200 just to come out, and $75 dollars an hour with a minimum of one hour---that is $275 plus the price of the light. Your company is not going to stiff you on your reimburssment when they see how much money you have saved them.

    I don't know....maybe that is just me.

I live in the area this company is from. The problem around here is that at one time coal was king. Lots of mines and lots of work. Well mine jobs are rare now so there are tons of guys with families who will do whatever they have to and the companies in the area know it. Wages are low and and what's expected of the driver is high. ( IE, get it there no matter what)

Rules? They only apply if YOU are caught in the area companies minds.

OTR Only that I know of. As a new driver I think you have to go with a trainer a min 6 weeks, Gilster is under a intervention with DOT right now and got hit hard with fines, You should look up there CSA scores and look for your self, it's not good...... They are using a lot of common carriers right now to move there product, they just can't keep a full ship of drivers, again this just how I seen things when I worked there, Yeah they have a few good truck and a bunch that sit in the yard empty, as with any company the new driver is going to get the bottom of the pile truck. Again there are not all bad, just not a company that was a good fit for me. Way too much risky ways of day to day trucking. A company that has high CSA sores is a target on your back with DOT and you WILL get pulled around back at the scales and inspected sooner or later, NEW DRIVERS just do your research on the company where ever you go and PLEASE be SAFE
