Calling 911 is still the best answer. :)

So I checked the shop at the truck stop I was at before I made the decision, he wasn’t there. I didn’t drop a dime, I dropped a manhole cover on this idiot. This load is one of our biggest customers, with a product that would be a cargo thieves wet dream, and easily fenced. Dispatch tried to reach the guy, he wouldn’t answer his phone. Dispatch asked me to lock his trailer, which I did. When they did reach him he tried to say he was across the interstate at a TA getting his truck serviced. What this genius didn’t take into consideration was they pinged his truck, which was 20 miles away.

At first I wondered if I made the right decision, but after talking to three drivers, whom I hold in high regard, they all agreed they would have done the same. So all you keyboard tough guys can tell me I’m a POS, it won’t bother me in the least. If the driver is either to stupid, or lazy to do the right thing it’s not my fault.

In closing, two major cargo theft rings were just broken up last week, one in NJ and the other in California. I work for a great company, and I’m going to look out for there best interest. Period.

Whatever happened to hiring people that are trusted to do the job? I would say the driver in question has made a conscious professional choice to do what he did for good reason.

You mean the driver that dropped the trailer? Maybe so. Maybe his lock isn't working, maybe he called the office to let them know. Maybe...a lot of things.
But if the trailer isn't secured like it's supposed to be and something happens to it and the company has to pay for an expensive load don't you think a simple phone call might have prevented that?
What would you have done if you were the OP?

I don't care about the "company". I care about my fellow drivers and their families. I think it's clear what I would have done and it certainly wouldn't have been to snitch out the other driver that's for sure.
