This problem started about 6 months ago and I'm just now able to pull the radio and see if it's fixable. It would just randomly shut off on me and I could occasionally get it to come up by tapping on the side (not off to a good start I know). I just left it off until now where I have exhausted all of my means. I did get it to come on but then it would shut off if the mounting thumb screws were tightened. (very odd maybe some internal chassis short?). Now I have nothing. On a bench power supply so i know is has power and I can here an audible pop from the speaker when I go from off to on but nothing else happens. Any ideas or am I in the market for a new radio.

It's in my daily driver. Ram 3500 dually. I've had grounding issues before and those were taking care of years ago. Just popped the back cover off and reflowed some of the components connected to the chassis. Figured with the thumbscrews messing with it somehow it was tweaking and maybe had a bad joint. Radio seems to be working on the bench now but but I've done this a few times and as soon as I get it back in the truck it's out again.

Not sure if you replied. It just shows you quoting my text.

I mean the chassis of the radio. There are a few components that are bolted to it to use as a heatsink and a few grounds in there. Nothing loose in the radio and for the most part everything g looks fine except inside.

The thumbscrews I'm talking about are the 4 that hold it the the mounting bracket for the vehicle. At one point the radio worked but as soon as those theumbscrews were snugged up to hold it it cut off. Loosened the thumb screws and it came back on. Not dust in the radio and power cord is fine. I've also powered it right of the prongs on the back with the same issues. Radio is also clean inside. I'm in Gulfport MS. Not sure rig any techs in the area.

Most likely there is a cold solder joint somewhere, I would bring it to a tech that knows what that means - ask them - and have the find the problem, also replace the power cord too.
