This congresswoman is probably bringing Fitzgerald's a boatload of new business, like Obama has for the gun manufacturers.

Yeah, it isn't a matter of bringing Fitz a boatload of new business, they already had that gig going on. It is protecting that business from dying due to EPA regulations.

This is something that concerns me, I have been considering buying a glider. I would hate to spend that kinda money on one, then 2 or 3 years from now they decide to force me to put some kinda crappy aftermarket DPF,EGR system on it..... If that happens , Im going to be thinking I should have bought a new truck anyway...
Decisions, decisions -
You have it skewed a little. Those gliders that are sold BEFORE anything takes effect, are not required to up fit to the emissions stuff. It will be the gliders that are produced after the regulatory stuff is implemented. The same thing that we went thru with regular production trucks now. No one is forcing a 1998 KW T600 to put on emissions junk (except California). The same thing applies with the gliders. My 2013 glider will not be required to stick on the emissions junk, and that is probably the main reason I will just keep this one going for as long as possible, even up to the time I call it quits in trucking.
whoopNride and mp4694330 Thank this. -
Oh I understand what your saying completely. I also know how our government changes the rules in the middle of the game. Just concerns me I guess... I have really been considering a glider to take me into retirement, with an inframe later on. Maybe im old school, but this emissions junk scares the crap outa me.

Yeah, there is always that risk. Hey, life is full of risks. Just owning a truck is a financial risk. One cannot live their life on the basis of what might happen. They have to assess the situation and make the best informed decision based on the information available.
I am a vet. There was always a risk, in taking a hill, that the whole thing would go badly and it would be a losing deal. You have to plan, you have to see your options, you have to gather all the information you can, you have to plan for any contingency, but in the final analysis, you have to make a decision. You cannot allow fear to influence the decision. Only reason.
Business is not all that much different, except no one is shooting at you. You have to go in with the same mindset. Why do you think many corporate executives have read Sun Tzu's work "Art of War", which has been around and studied since the 6th century BC? It is a classic in the truest sense. Planning, Strategy, implementation, etc is a part of business, be it a corporate wonk or the small business owner that is starting out and trying to just make a living.
Fear will kill the motivation to do anything.whoopNride Thanks this. -
I have a 3:55 ratio in my Columbia with a 10 spd. Not exactly the best combo with a C15. I have to either tach out the RPMs before throwing the next gear or lug it in the next gear. The throws are too far apart. I much prefer a 13/18 for this very reason.
The Cascadia has a slightly taller gear ratio, I can take 9th gear almost to 58 mph before shifting into hi. My Columbia 49 - 52 mph @ 1500 RPM in 9th. So in my thinking,.. this Cascadia has more of a highway gear,..and should be getting much better economy where I am now,.. Ok, Mo and now into Il along i70 heading into Oh. According to all the Pro DD15 guys, this truck should be seeing at least 7 mpg. I've yet to see an honest 6 mpg. It only has 525k mi on it. Its an old Hummer Trucking truck. Can still make out the lettering on the door through the faded paint. Truck # was 9918.
I'm in the market for a new(er) truck and was considering a Cascadia or another Columbia with the DD15 only because there are so many of them and parts are cheap and plentiful. Figured I could find a decent truck in the $45k - $50k range. Running this truck has turned me off completely. I'm going to go after another C15 or find a Cummins. That and I really want either a 386 or newer 579. Probably end up with a 386,.. but who knows. Still at least a year away for me right now.
