I wondered over a period of years which cost less including down time and repairs and tax benefits.

7 trucks and my new ones make more but I buy poor decisions. I've bought a couple with a million miles where the engine and tranny pile up soon. I wanted to buy non rebuilt ones because I am picky who does my motors. In heinsight, very bad choice and it has cost me dearly. I've spent $35,000 in the last 30 days and am about to rebuild my c15 again.

Next used truck I buy, will absolutely have a rebuilt engine. I don't care about the rest, and the rebuild will not have been done at a dealership.

That's not entirely true. If you/builder has a title for the donation truck, then you don't have to pay, but if you/builder doesn't have a donation truck, you have to pay FET.

I thought FET was based on the cost of a glider? For example if a new 389 Pete that is CARB compliant costs $165,000 and your new glider 389 costs $160,000 you will pay FET on that glider. Isn't there a percentage threshold as long as the glider costs 70% or less than a similar new equipment no FET is due? Or is that wrong?

That's what I read on overdrive and another industry periodical as well.

I'm sitting around the office not accomplishing much today. Maybe I'll put in a call to that outfit in PA, Hunter peterbilt. See what they can tell me about building a glider.

:/ this is what happens when I ain't trucking. Start making calls to make the things I think about while driving come to reality.
