Correct me if I am wrong...
It is still possible to buy a brand new cab on chassis and then mount an old N14 on it at a shop of your own choosing.
Your own glider, uniquely designed and engineered individually by you.
The prohibition or whatever limitations apply only to mass production like at Fitzgerald or Harrison...correct?Rideandrepair and stuckinthemud Thank this. -
I have a 2012 Schneider Glider, no zeros or GL in the vin? The tag on my block says the block is 2004. It has no EGR, and is a ddecIII ? I had elog at my last company that worked fine but after switching companies, this elog doesnt work properly, it wont self switch to drive line, I have to do it. GPS works fine, but truck doesnt give it enough info to tell it to change, at least that's the install guys line. .
They said I can go paper if I like, but with my block being 2004?
Will they call detroit to search the vin from a scale?Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I would call the truck dealer and give them the VIN and they can tell you whether that's truly a glider. The title itself should say something like reconstructed or give you some indication that it is not just a factory-built truck.
As far as paper logs you're supposed to have a 2000 or older engine from what I understand. I have no idea how well they check on those things but if your engine clearly is marked 2004 I don't think you can do that.
I also thought that you're the older engines you're supposed to have an engine sticker that you can clearly read on the valve cover that tells the year of the engine?Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
There's nothing stating you need a sticker or anything stating that its a glider. It can be a glider, but with a newer(not an log exempt) engine.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
The truck is definetly a glider, my Freightliner dealer can look it up by the vin, chassis suspension and engine details are all there, no trans or diff info. The decal on the back of the passenger visor has engine, suspension info, but no trans or diff info.
Decal on the valve cover has the vin, timing stuff etc, and the rebuild date.
Detroit told me it's a 2004 block. Apparently it's the better one to have it has piston cooler nozzles?
Are powered gliders different?Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Some newer units have it in the door jam. Port trucks using an RFID to enter the terminals need to submit the 'Engine Family' code, a mix of numbers and letters that show the size and year of the engine. Our port is restricted to 2010 engines for new to the port units. Grandfathered trucks 1998 to 2009 have to already be active in the port truck pass system to be re-registered AND if the inactivity is over a year, will not be approved.
When the system was first introduced; you could 'fudge' the engine year until the found many trucks with engine years after production so they started to demand the Engine Code and any trucks older than 2010 have to upload a picture of the sticker to be approved and for any changes of carrier, license plate number, etc.
Trucks where the sticker was defaced have to go to the dealer for proof of the engine family code.
Freightliner charges $500.00 and it takes two weeks.Rideandrepair, Dino soar and Elroythekid Thank this. -
