@Rideandrepair We discussed this in another thread that I cant find....I use to have to picture of it on my phone and I thought about you as you may have a picture or something......

Its just a paragraph from the FMCSA website where it asks the question..... Am I required to carry proof in the truck with me if truck is a glider....... Do you have that?

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I have a copy of the ELD exemption. Basically says the rule applies to engine year, not Truck year. Mentions Glider as an example. My Truck is in Freightliners system as a 2000, yet the Title says 2001. The engine is Nov. 99. It’s exempt. I’ve been asked a couple times about the 2001 model year and the paper logs. I explain. No problems yet. I carry a copy just in case. Rather avoid a violation than try to fight it later. No requirement to carry proof on the Truck. Only records at home office.

Yeah I seen that one....I thought there was a picture on here of something about not having to have proof on the truck from the FMCSA website....

I used to have it but I got a new phone and didnt keep that picture, now I cant find it online. I ask because a guy I know was pulled into scale in Charlotte and they told him he did....didnt shut him down or ticket him. I told him there was no rule or regulation stating that it must be carried in the truck.

However, there may be instances when the model year reflected on the vehicle registration is not the same as the engine model year, most commonly when a vehicle is rebuilt using a “glider kit” or when an engine is swapped from one vehicle to another. Vehicles with engines predating model year 2000 are also accepted and are not required to have an ELD, even if the VIN number reported on the registration indicates that the CMV is a later model year. While the driver is not required to possess documentation that confirms the vehicle engine model year, 49 CFR Part 379 Appendix A requires motor carriers to maintain all documentation on motor and engine changes at the principal place of business.
When does the pre-2000 model year exception apply? | FMCSA
