We all know how a dealer wouldn't spread a rumor.....
If its a fact post the facts in writing not just what some salesman trying to sell his trucks told you.
I worked in dealerships for 15 years. They will use any angle they can to sell what they have.
This is still lunch counter/internet talk unless there are some facts to back it up.

Unless you are kitting out an existing truck that you own I'd say most built gliders that roll out are over the threshold and the owners pay FET anyways. I can't recall what the percentage is.
Also fwiw, a guy I hail cattle with was told by a KW salesman two years ago that the gov't was going to ban gliders Jan 1, 2014. Shortly after he said that KW got back in the glider game.Dominick253, MJ1657 and KenworthGuyNH Thank this. -
FET is 12%. At least for new trucks. Not sure about gliders.
Most guys I know are goin glider to skirt breakdowns. Nice new body. Proven older engine reliability.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Gees a dealer spreading rumors cause they cant sell the new garbage.Im driving a fitzgerald glider and live in eastern pa and always in nj and md and havent been bothered.
Dominick253 and MJ1657 Thank this. -
If a glider costs a certain percent of the cost of a similarly spec'd new truck the buyer has to pay FET. I want to say 70 or 75% but I can't recall for sure.

Why was it towed??
And in response to the second part..............you posted outright BS in the thread about DOT physicals; claiming "even an EMT can do your physical." Owning a truck for 35 years does not make one immune to the rumors and BS that swirl in this industry.....Dominick253, Jumbo, Boardhauler and 1 other person Thank this. -
Back in the day, waaaay before all this emissions BS,gliders were originally sold to help rebuild a truck that had been in a fairly bad wreck, but still had a good and salvageable drivetrain. They also were popular to get a basically new truck and not pay fet.I bought a new conventional Eagle glider kit from IH in 1984.It was considered a part, had a part #,and was sold through the parts dept.It was not built,I built it myself from another IH 4300 I had bought new in the 70's,just wanted to update to a bigger sleeper and fancier truck.Shortly after I bought my kit,the govt. started collecting FET on them and they wanted to tax people that had already built them. They tracked me down through the the vin# which has a code that indicates a glider, you can't get away from that. They finally left me alone and didn't collect taxes on gliders already built, but they wanted to.The black truck was the glider I built from the tan ones drive train.

The only state considering CARB regs is Oregon. They are going to mirror California's regs. That info came from Joe ( something like rukaboch) from the Calif. construction Truck Group.

Another good reason not to go west of Texas.MJ1657 Thanks this.

Going through some old stuff, and found the dealers brochure from 1984,thought I'd post a few pics from it.
My glider was $27k new in 84,had the Eagle Broughm stand up double sleeper was IHC's biggest at the time.Had a 1500sq. inch radiator also, good for a KT Cummins. One thing they didn't do back then was pre drill the frame.I about wore out my magnetic drill press, drilling all the 5/8" holes to hang the rear suspension and install the 5th wheel..

Doug: GREAT post. I love any vehicle that is classic. So did it come with an interior? Did you have a donor truck. Do you still own it?
