Hello this is my first post!
Been wanting to buy my own truck and be an owner operator for a while now. I’m still only 17, though, and I know that it’s definitely still a long time until I’m able to buy my first new truck, and eventually my dream truck, preferably a glider...
But recently I was talking to some of the otr drivers at the moving company I work. One guy was telling me to avoid gliders because they are going to be banned by 2021 and they are only ELOG exempt for 6 months after being bought. I’ve NEVER seen anything like that on the internet lol, but is any of that true? Just wondering.

First rule in trucking: Don't listen to what other drivers say or what you read on the news or the internet.

There is no way in h*ll that the government will take a truck off the road which was ever deemed road worthy and sold publicly. They might possibly force you to put an ELD on it somehow but they won't take it off the road.

    Second rule: See first rule.

California did it. Gooberment can and will do it if they want.

Federally? Maybe not but states? It can happen.

As for listening to other truckers some are worth listening to but most aren’t.

Why would you want to work 22 hours a day on paper logs?
Window lickers and mouth breathers have to work that long a day because they haven’t and will never learn how to drive a truck and make money without working nonstop.

It’s not necessarily that I want to use the logbooks to run more hours in a day(although that’s a possibility XD). I just prefer using paper since Elogs don’t use common sense, and through this you to lose driving time just to avoid getting a violation.

I’ve been driving (and keeping accurate logs) for 20 years. I’ve been using elogs for the last four years, and frankly prefer them. Dispatch can’t screw you over by giving you more work than you can legally cover and expect you to “fudge” your logbook to make it look right. Some drivers find that kind of thing appealing, but I’m not going to lie for my dispatcher.

Only in California right now. I believe next year you won't be able to register an truck older than a 2010. I'll be down with driving in a few more years so do as they may.

OK I heard the other day while i was standing in the fuel line at the pilot down the road to me that they are not only going to make gliders illegal but anything that is older than a 2010 truck they are going to confiscate from the owners and set them on fire right there.

Now this has to be a credible source, he said so because he is a trucker who knows someone who knows someone else who heard it at the lunch counter at a T/A in Franklin Tennessee when there was a snow storm and I-65 was shut down.

It is just like the thing that President trump said in his state of the union address this past week, which I don't remember there was one but because the guy who said it has a big belt buckle and a chain on his wallet and also drives a old Freightliner classic making him a credible source, he said he was told Trump is going to write an executive order making the shippers load trucks in 10 minutes or each driver gets $1000 and making elogs on Uber cars. You can't argue with him because that was what he was told by someone who heard it from someone who knows Trump.
