Gliders with engines older then 2000 are elog exempt

Now there are rumors that the eld will be hold till 2019 since the enforcement officers are not ready and to many unknown. I hope it's thru!

 

It's not. Oh there are laws, comments, and hopeful wishes that are going through the motions. Until a new law gets passed though, expect to need one in December.

 

I listened to a man from FMCSA at the Souther Carriers Conference talk about ELDs. When the question about gliders came up he clarified that the date of manufacture of the motor was the basis for determination of compliance. He also added unless the trucks electronics supported the ELD. I had never heard that said before. I have since asked a few people who own gliders and two of them said that they have the ability to run an E log.
Anyone have anything else to add ?

 

I know it's wishful thinking, so many rumors. I'm running e log from keep trucking, all im missing is the hook up to my ECM. i guess we all have deal with it!

The truck in the avatar final assembly date was 10/2/1999. The Series 60 engine is a 1999 model year. The vin indicates the truck is a 2000 model. The "new" interpretation of the regulation released in mid July indicates I do not have to equip the truck with an ELD.
Last January our company started installing ELD's in approx 150 tractors, mine was one of them. The ELD works flawlessly. I am going to miss it.....

 

When are they voting on that?

If you like, why get rid of it? My motto is twofold. First one size does not fit all, and second there should be no mandate, use what works best.

If you like it, who am I to say "get rid of it"?

 

Actually, I am probably going to keep the ELD. I don't run hard enough for it to make any difference in my operation. As I have said in the past the ELD is not the culprit, the HOS regs are. Just a little humor...
