The price would have to go down though...I don't think I'd sell much "fuel" at current rates. -
Thanks a lot, everyone!! I really appreciate your advice. I looked into Transport Designs, Inc. and that is EXACTLY the kind of routes I had in mind. I have also heard of a company called Convoy that runs a lot west. Anyone hear anything about them? I am open to other companies like these as well.
I also think that driving for a year or so and then looking at a company that runs west sounds like really good advice. I will most likely do that.
Great advice on waiting to buy the house, too. I should have been more specific. That actually IS my plan. I will be based in KC (I will store my stuff in a place I'm renting really cheap from a couple that lives here while I save up for the house), I just meant that this will be "home" (where my physical address is) and was concerned that I would not be able to work with a company that has a hub far away from KC (e.g. Salt Lake City or Minneapolis or something). I heard that most companies have a 50 or 100 mile radius or so.
Concerning the reefers running produce. Someone else told me the same thing! This makes perfect sense to me, as so much produce comes out of the West.
I WAS BORN IN DAVENPORT, IA!!! Isn't that crazy. I wonder if that would give me any pull with John Deere (better not tell them my grandpa worked for Case International Harvester for 30 years... arent they competitors or something)
Again, thank you all for all of the good advice. I'm still all ears. If you can think of any more companies or advice please keep 'em comin'. My dad drove flatbed for over 10 years (I think) for a company called 3-I. I know that's hard work but I would be willing to do it, wouldn't that be one way to get west.
Also, my brother drove a reefer unit so if that's what it takes, I will do that as well. (My brother and my Dad both died years ago
Thank you all a billion!! -
by the way, NoTarps4me... I really like your quote from proverbs

again, SkinnyTrucker, thanks for the good advice on Transport Design, Inc.... exactly the kind of thing I had in mind... a triangle that goes from Minn to Los Angeles up to Portland or Seattle and than back to Minn... How beautiful would that run be?!!!!
sorry guys... once I learn how to use this forumn, I can thank you all individually... please bear with me... I just noticed that little "thanks" button.. not sure how it works yet! -
can new people receive notices when a thread they started is answered???
-
via email...
In the "user CP" (top left corner of the page) then click "edit options" (down the left side somewhere), then, under "default thread subscription mode" (not quite 1/2 way down the page)...select "instant email notification". -
Please dont make the mistake many drivers make...don't buy a home in some remote area assuming that your trucking income will pay your morgadge forever....
