I did not read through the whole thread.

Can your wife drive well? When the kids go off to college (if), you two could team drive and make some good money!

also some of the state employment agencies will help you thru the truck driving schools now,, weigh your options, find out what state programs at each agency that will help each family member with jobs and or schooling.

His side of the story is that it's an old historic building and that he can not get ac approved by the historic commission of montgomery county to let him install one.

My wife's side of the story is the same as yours.

He has AC out in the dining area which is completely separate from the order kitchen area. He also has big industrail fans in the kitchen area but they don't do a dang thing during the summer. I actually like the food there and like her boss he's a nice guy, but I do tell her to quit all the time because of the conditions which are to say the least....terrible. But work is very hard to come by and I think she is too proud to give in at this point.

The one offered at the local community college is kind of cheap, but no one has returned my calls as of yet.

barbershop, there used to be times like what I and many others went thru,,where you were Grandfathered into Trucking. I heard a few years ago the government band or disavowed the Grandfather clause, because the trucking insurance companies were loosing their shirts on that. but if by slim chance if you do know a couple of drivers that know a way around that. you could learn and study and pass your cdl test and all that goes with it. Tell your family I am rooting for them all. I can read your situation but I will not claim to understand it. I've been trucking since 1997 with a CDL but have been around trucks since childhood. so I work in the trucking industry because I love it not because I have to. so best of luck, don't give up and listen to your dad...lol. he may just be right. Trucking is not a job,, it takes more of you to a point of changing your personality, character, and all around get ur balls off my court kind of thinking in just your first year...if not the 1st 6mos, outhere.
thank you for posting, you have given me a few things to think of. be safe take care and high five your family for sticking in there for me? Bayoubaby

I know about those industrial fans, all they do is blow out hot air.I know a guy who lives out in the middle of nowhere,Reading is the closest to him.He tells me all the time theres no work there.Hes currently bike riding to New York stay with friends and hopefully find work there.I truly hope it gets better for you and your wife.Blame the no jobs high cost of living and everything else on Washington DC.

My community college cheap CDL training was $4K!!!

I would have to assume that a restaurant must be making a ton of money to afford to run a/c in an area full of stoves and ovens...

30 years ago I slept on a board between two seats. Coat for a pillow. Boots out the window. I ate more carp to get where I am at than most would. I was early 20's, and desperate to make it. I lied, begged, & worked harder than the rest. No trucking schools back then. I got tough, fast. It's a great life if you make it one. It's a hard life if all you want is a dollar. Got to take my wife with me years later. We saw the country, many times. She got to tell me where to go. Priceless.
