Hi, just wanted to take a second and introduce myself. I have posted a little bit in the new drivers question section and have received a lot of fantastic advice.

I am entering this career field after 26 years of working in local Law Enforcement. Have another 15 years to work before I can collect a pension. I no longer have a desire to work in LE. I did 6 years in the Michigan Air National Guard, SP. Called up in Gulf one but just sat in State for 6 months since the war went so fast we did not need to deploy.

Was married 14 years and then divorced about 6 years ago. Just helped my family settle the family farm/property/estate out and there is not a lot keeping me in Michigan. I'm sick of being stuck in the cold and am looking forward to getting out and seeing the country and being personally productive again.

I enjoy meeting people and am in a position where I don't need to be "home" on any particular schedule. In fact, I hope to move my physical address to one of the income tax free states soon, South Dakota, Nevada, Texas, Florida and would love to get some good advice about that....... I have been in Michigan most of my life and it's really gone down hill here. I think everything is changing as a result of the economy and it's just not the place it once was. LMAO Detroit is a wasteland.

I was raised conservative but I find myself becoming more and more independent as I age.

It's a bit intimidating moving to a new career in this stage in life but I am looking forward to the education, experience, and opportunity.

I have a number of offers from the companies that offer training and employment and have selected one. I should be going to the school portion towards the end of january/1st of february area.

Again, thanks for the opportunity to participate in this community.

    Brad

I always smile when I hear/read about a former LEO coming into the 'Truck Driving' side. :) Really..I dont know why..Certainly no hidden disrespect here..

Maybe along the lines of..Hey... 'One of yours came over to the Trucking' side. :) Meh..Never-mind.. Come on over to S.D. and we'll have a brewski.

    Best of Luck to ya..

Thanks for the reply Bumpy. I have no idea what the draw is, maybe it's the military thing...being mobile? Seriously I am sooo sick of Michigan right now. Dads been gone for about 5 years now and Mom is full blown Alzheimers. My mom is being cared for by my sisters and frankly I am no longer "needed" there. We sold the farm/property and put mom and one of my sisters in a new condo....a breeze compared to the old farm house and acres.

My dad was originally from SD, the platte area, a small city called New Holland. I still have relatives in Sioux Falls, Corsica, and Platte. Although not as warm as the South, tax free and lower cost of living. Nice peeps too! Anyways dad moved to Michigan to work in the auto industry and did very well with GM. Back then all SD had to offer him was the farm.

Thanks for the brewski offer, odds are I will end up in Minnesota at some point...looking at National Van. I'm looking forward to seeing some new territory and from what I understand I will have my opportunity to see it...
