Special if you're running an double overdrive
-
I've long ago given up trying to get guys to understand that point. It's takes 70% more HP to make that jump, just in aero drag. And since the other frictional losses are linear, there's another 30%. So it takes double the power to run 130 vs 100.
And you lay that out, and all you get is "But I had lots of throttle left @ 100mph!" SIGH! -
The one on the right looks just like my girlfriend. I don't recognize the two on the left though.Hammer166 Thanks this.

Back in my Facebook days there was someone in the 359 group that calculated what the terminal velocity would be if you dropped a truck from an airplane and could keep it pointed straight down going into the wind. I don’t recall what it was for sure, but it wasn’t close to 130.
-
And I call BS on that .. I had a 85 ...359 with a dailed in 3408 on tall 24:5's with 3:55 and a5×4.. I know what you would have to do .. you had to work to get triple digits .. I have a 15 speed now that the big hole is bump'n the dash .. and I know for a fact I could squezze more mph out of a set of sticks vs a 15
BTW there is no such thing as a 15 double over ..

Feedman and jamespmack Thank this. -
You ever seen a dash exactly like this from the factory in a 359 ???.. I haven't ..
But this 87 came that wayAttached Files:

Man. Thats purdy. V8 cat? Twin bank pyro tells me so. Love the “55” in the speedo. That’s so 80’s for sure. That was last year for 359 and kinda in a way proves that Peterbilt didn’t have the red oval on the tach and speedo faces until the 379’s when they started using VDO as the main supplier.Oxbow, Feedman, jamespmack and 1 other person Thank this.

Btw. @Catmando. That’s what my grandfather used to call the B-17 treatment. Lots of gauges and a gauge for everything.

^Fixed that last line^
Years ago @PackRatTDI posted the full gearing for a 6x4: A gear for every season: The Spicer 6 X 4 compound transmission., and if IIRC 5x4 and 4x4 had roughly the same 0.68 OD if both boxes were turned around (i.e. overdrives.) That's a helluva step from the 0.79 of the 15 speeds, for sure. Only 0.62 of the RTOO13's was taller.jamespmack and Last Call Thank this.
