The company decides. Some companies have no time limit as long as you still have a cdl and can pass the drug test.

As Chinatown said, it is up to the company. This company is OK with it, but they will give me a driving test before hiring me too, just to make sure I am a competent driver.

Well, since weight isn't in the fmcsa medical handbook as limiting factor, he's wrong no matter what else he claims.
Just get a 2nd from a place that doesn't let personal bias override regulations.

Right and some companies give a road test and if you look rusty, will put you with an experienced driver for a few days until you work the kinks out, so to speak.

Are you nervous? Will it be your first time behind the wheel in seven years?

    Zangief Thanks this.

I've redone my physical 2-3 months after takeing one twice. I didn't have any trouble.

    This is 100% company dependent.

Provided I can articulate the experience and abilities to our insurance provider, and the potential operator passes a road test with flying colors, who are we to say that the person is not a safe driver? A majority of these ideas have been ingrained into the industry by the mega carriers who want more drivers that they can pay a pittance to move cheap freight.

I wouldn't say I'm nervous, per se. I'm sure there will be some rust, but I did drive a city bus for almost five of those seven years. While it's not quite the same thing, I feel like it did keep me in practice when it comes to driving a bigger vehicle anyway.

I've been watching some YouTube videos to brush up on some of the things that I could be a little rusty on. I felt very comfortable the last time I drove a truck, though, so I'm hopeful that it won't be too big of a transition to "get back in the saddle" of an 18-wheeler. I'm planning to just take it slow and be extra careful until I'm back in the swing of things.
