My wife is interested in riding with me as a passenger OTR again. But we have dogs nowadays. No family to leave them with. The idea is to go back OTR WITHOUT having a lot of overhead. We did that for three years a long time ago, we sold our cars and let our lease expire on our aparment and then hit the road together. Saved a ton of money over the course of three years.

Are there rural farms that can take the dogs and "board" them.

I've seen some dog boarding businesses on the internet, and, based on those examples, it would be cheaper just to rent a house for them and forget about taking my wife with me, so she can stay and take care of the canines.

Yes thinking about boarding 4 dogs for extended time is going to cost crazy amounts of money. And 4 dogs and you and your wife in a truck sounds ridiculous to me and really unfair for the dogs being trapped in a truck all day with very little ability to move around I love my Golden retriever but finding a good family for them to take is love also.Good luck

I can't imagine anyone will take 4 dogs for weeks and NOT charge serious money.

I've seen this done before a few times. Not something I would do but it's not uncommon for married team drivers to also have a bunch of dogs. To each their own.

I never had a dog, the old man hated them,( took attention away from him) so I never grew up with them. Not a dog person, really, I tend to think people that have pets are lacking in self esteem, and need that company of a dog. Nothing wrong with that, I just never needed that. Not to say I haven't experienced some really smart dogs. Dogs are amazing creatures, they clearly don't fit in our society, but man has adapted them to do so. What I really don't understand, is why some have 2, 3, 4 dogs, they all become idiots because not enough time is spent individually, I don't think that's right. I could totally understand 1 dog in a truck, could be your best buddy, but 4 dogs is too much. I have a neighbor with a little Shi-tzu(?), just the cutest thing, and smart too, and I think it would be unfair to him to have another dog. Don't judge me too harshly, just not a dog person, funny, people that ARE dog people, just can't understand how someone would not like a dog. Kind of like religion. Good luck.

People having dogs lack self esteem? That's a really weird take. Taking care of pets is more along the lines of a selfless thing imo.

Hey, you first finding out I'm a weird guy? I see how some people treat dogs, almost like something is lacking in their makeup, and having a dog respond to them, makes them feel important. Regardless, I also see the joy that pets bring, and I can't complain about that. My daughter, is an avid dog owner, and has no shortage of esteem, and I see the difference in the dog, if they are loved. Tied to a chain out back, is no life for a dog, yet, some don't care about that. Having a pet, releases endorphins for both, and makes you and the pet feel good. So does weed/booze, loose women and fast cars, so I suppose a dog is the best bet. I don't think a boss would be too happy if you missed an appointment because one of your dogs is sick.
Then there's the cost,,,,have you been to a vet lately? People are going into hock over their pets, and that is something many just can't afford. My daughter put one of her dogs to sleep, because she just couldn't afford to stick any more money into a dying dog.

The key to a happy healthy life is balance.
Too much of anything is not good.
As long as something is an addition to your happiness, it is OK. But like EVERYTHING overdone, it will interfere with your life.

More importantly DRIVING is a job that NEEDS 100% of your ATTENTION.

Four animals in a truck is not fair to the animals or anyone else on the road.
They will at some point take your attention off of your job of driving.
It would be a matter of yes it will happen ......lets hope the driver isn't in a lot of traffic when it does.
NO , lets not hope there isn't a lot of traffic. Don't take your four dogs on the job.
We cannot handle phones and drive safe. Common sense tells everyone, 4 dogs will get in the way. They will need you.
I know dogs and other pets become family, but 4 in the truck , I feel is endangering yourself , your dogs and everyone else on the road.
