Speaking of which, The Inner Harbor. It's a protected area. EXPENSIVE FOOD. You. Have. Been. Warned. Probably 10 dollars for a lollipop now...
The USS Constellation was one of the original frigates in Rev. War but is configured as it was a Sloop of War back in the Civil War. The Iron clads made her obselete overnight. Boston has the USS Consitution which is still on the active rolls and is sailed occasionally.
Aquarium is pretty good. USS Torsk Submarine etc. Lightship. Md Science center. Over yonder.
A tip. Use the water taxi to get around, it's like a dollar but it makes a regular run around the harbor, saves you some walking. You will also see Federal Hill which was a Occupation Fort vs Baltimore during the Civil War.
The harbor you see today is NOT what I saw as a kid. The empty field, boat marina under Federal Hill was actually a Pepsi Bottling plant with a bunch of jobs and shipyards with even more jobs. The corner where harbor place sits was even more jobs you could buy fresh seafood at that corner daily. Everything was demo'ed to make way for condos now.
A tip. Stay in the Inner Harbor area. You are protected there. But if you venture two blocks north and east you find yourself in the "Block" which is a complex of seedy strip joints with really all sorts of crime. As same with two blocks west and south of the harbor. More crime and violence. There is a section of baltimore you do not ever want to go south of North Ave across the city and so on.
Which is why Im trying to learn where you intend to take your truck going to Baltimore before the Parade.
Now. Getting from Baltimore to DC. It's a no brainer you can use 95 tunnel and all. You might not even use the tunnel of you emerge on the sw side near the ports.
There are certain roads you dont take with a 18 wheeler such as the baltimore washington parkway. I know that some people do. I choose not to do it. If memory serves it leads you just about into NE DC towards eventually the Capitol. Silver Spring etc. I cannot tell you the level of drug, violence and predatory that goes on outside of the DC protected mall tourist museum area.
There is a TA at the Jessup about halfway to DC on 95. But parking is a challenge and it's a little bit of a pain plus prositution, crime etc. Especially at night. It is not my favorite place.
There are other ways with a little bit of routing on country state roads to get to DC in a roundabout manner but if you missed a turn you are going to end up somewhere else entirely.
95 to DC 495 is a mixing bowl. Once on 495 you are on your own, stay out of the left two lanes. Expect aggressive driving and violence from everyone around you. In my time it was common to see 4 cars smash each other on brake check and a few will burn right there. I go through a bunch of fire extinguishers there until I learned to simply bypass the entire City on US 15 or 301.
Ive also suggest if you know the address where you are assigned to go to in Baltimore and in DC and don't want to make that public, bring up google earth and then zoom down to street view so you are literally standing right there on the sidewalk looking around. That little tool is awesome when deciding what a truck can do or can't do.
