I LOVED the lanes I was running...lots of western routes. I stuck to the 2-lanes as much as I could...picked the shortest, most direct route and did a lot of sight seeing. I had a paper map and would highlight the route I took, and I always tried to take a different route whenever practical. Worked out, too...my hub miles were averaging 2-4% more than the paid miles, and my map filled in pretty quick.
I stayed out 2-3 weeks at a time, and was on my way home for some scheduled home time when I got word that my grandfather had died. They repowered the load and left an empty trailer here in town for me when I was ready to get back in the truck. The following week, I delivered on thanksgiving day out in Wyoming...but they didn't have anything pre-planned. Storm rolling in, no tire chains, I needed to roll...so they bounced me all the way to Minnesota for a load to Dallas. From there, they sent me to Houston...and then a load to Eagle Pass. I had told them when I was hired I needed off the first weekend in December...and had been reminding them all November...but they thought that since I had just been off a week for my grandpa's funeral that I didn't really need to get home again after only 2 weeks out. I delivered in Eagle Pass the day I was supposed to be home, and they wanted me to go to Laredo to SEE about getting a load. They couldn't tell me they had a trailer there waiting for me to throw my straps and roll, so I told 'em I quit and asked 'em where they wanted their truck. I dropped the truck off in Gainesville, had Enterprise pick me up and headed home.
I liked running for 'em, but they just didn't get it when I told 'em repeatedly that I needed to be home. Only way I'd EVER run with 'em again would be in my own truck...where I could just go home if/when I needed to.
...and back then, they didn't have 18's. They had 10 speeds that you drove like a 9, and it would shift itself between 9 and 10. I HATED that transmission....but the truck was nice. An '06 Pete with less than 500 miles on the clock.

Ive been here since 1995 im an o/o. Great place to work but the hometime does suck. You can go home if you run your butt off, but the way they pay, their benefits and their equipment means that if you dont like someone else will. They treat you good but you gotta work. This is an 'oldskool' type of place...lot of older drivers(im 45 and young here)and theres just not a whole lot of patience for someone that wants to go home every 2 weeks. Aint gona happen. When i started there were 22 company trucks and about 100 o/o's. Back then we hauled some outrageously huge loads. Weve went to alot of legal freight but heavy haul has always stayed busy. There's somewhere around 300 company trucks and a lil more o/o's now. Tons of trailers so you can be ready to switch from flat to dropdeck to rgn to step deck and back. Great Great company though
BusyVixen Thanks this. -
Hi out there...any info you can share with us on this company would be greatly appreciated. My hubby is thinking about going O/O with them. Just want to know the scoop before we get into anything unpleasant. Thanks in advance,
