Well, let's do the math. 13.50 at 40 hrs a week will be 540 per week. Now, maybe you'll work more than 40 hrs a week? I don't know. And you'll need a place to live, utilities etc. If you take the non driving job will the wife be working also? Driving isn't going to be something you can say you'll absolutely make a certain amount each week because it's completely based on freight. As a solo driver look at the maximum miles you can possible run and know that you won't usually be running that many. Most solos I know run about 2000 to 2500 a week. Some run less, some more based on their fleets and frankly how hard they work. Also after Christmas freight falls off during the winter months for a number of companies and Swift is one of them. Living on a truck can be either cheaper or more expensive than living at home based on lifestyle and how you spend your money. If you live like you're on vacation; eating every meal in a restaurant, staying in motels then you'll spend every penny you make plus some. However, if you stay primarily in your truck and your wife cooks in the truck with food purchased at the grocery store not at truck stops then actually you can live very cheaply. It's all based on what you two choose to do. We actually lived much cheaper when we were OTR than we do now because we had more time off to shop, prepare meals on the truck etc. But we also have less fluctuation in our miles per week. All of this may not have been any help so if not.......I'm sorry!
Is there any info that you can give that goes on in the orientation is there some type of test you have to pass to be hired is there any info
If you follow some of the other swift threads the guys and gals show in great detail what exactly they are doing from cdl school with them all the way through. Some good reading
Don't think they do that anymore, it consisted of lifting a bunch of weight (van and flat division) I think and if you can't do it you don't get hired. EDIT - I see you asked this question in a few different threads, I'm not trying to be rude or anything but if you asked that exact question in google you would have found the answer. In case you want to save some time next time. That's all.
You know I was thinking the sanething but I got nothing on it! But from what I saw they stoped doing that. I guess you or whoever can just call them and see. I think I think I will just give them a call myself.
I googled (Swift's Workwell Physical Assessment). The only thing I found were post from 05-06, Swift's site, & a bunch of horror stores by people who should not be drivers. I know about the weights. I was trying to find exact details. Every company has different test policy which range from weights only, to checking your bodies fat to weight index w/full aerobic workouts. Thank you for your answer. Not trying to be a pest. Stay safe & take it easy.
In that case sorry for the bad advice! I checked it real quick and saw a few answers but didn't realize how old they were. Probably because it's not done anymore. I guess. Take care.
Well after alot of thought Im going with Swift. Want to go back out on the road....Will update when I can. Leaving for orientation this Sunday to Phoenix.
