Hello!
I'm David and I'm going to start school in February. I'm 28 with wife and three kids. Yes I know what your thinking.
I am looking to be a local truck driver but the word on the road is that is impossible unless you have OTR exp.
I've looked into FedEx and UPS for local gigs and the pays ok. But my buddy, J makes $70-80 a year as a OTR driver....

Wife & 3 children; get all the endorsements, especially tanker/hazmat, TWIC. You need to make some good money so tanker is the way for new drivers. $60K+ annually.
$50K+ for some good flatbed companies. -
Put where you live in your profile...might help you find that local gig.Chinatown Thanks this.

Thank you and did you mean local tanker or OTR tanker?
I wanted to get your opinion on my "plan".
Go to driver school part time for the 8 weekends. (Thanks, I will get as many endorsements as possible.)
TransAm has told me everything looks good they just have to check my background and employers and what not. But I know that will check out just fine I didn't hide anything.
TransAm also seems to have the quickest training to get me into my own truck. I will be using the tax return to buffer my savings for the time I'd be making $50 a day.
I'd be fine with other companies training but with wife and 3 kids I can't afford to be out making next to nothing for 8+ weeks.
Then work for transam and go from there.
I think thats a decent plan but I wonder if I'm missing anything... -
Chinatown are you/have you pull tankers?
