It's real tough backing a box into a dock, let me tell ya. Did it with my dad from the age of 12, he always had me do it when the lot was open or it was late/early in the day. But I know you throw a reefer/van driver on a load to tarp it in the snow, wind, and 0 degree weather and they'd be gone faster than you know it. Each division has their niche where other divisions drivers wouldn't be able to hack it or whatever. But, we all also think we have bigger balls than the next guy too.

Most of my career has been as a flatbedder. Care to come watch me put the box in the dock? Next time I have a 12' high box to tarp in 20 mph winds when the temp is 16° you can come on over and give me a hand. ;)

The next time the economy goes south and y'all come running to the cold side because no one is buying sticks 'n bricks I don't want to hear any flatbedders whining about running at night, o'dark early appointments, actually having to get out of the truck to slide the tandems.

LOL! You guys got it soooo bad!

Back whining again eh? Go somewhere the flies aren't, and catch a movie. Oh! Not smart enough for that to pass through that alleged grey matter of yours??

A buck for a ComCheck, buck for the fuel card. At most companies you have to fight to get reimbursed for anything, even to get paid what you're owed.

What company isn't a little greedy? The point is to make money... those that don't are bankrupt. I'd rather work at one that understands how to make money.

I believe it's a better thing. You will learn from scratch & not have to break 4wheel shifting habits that may be ingrained.

Have seen many guys (& gals) do just fine with never driving a manual before.

Also, have seen guys that have driven large trucks in past struggle with breaking old bad habits.

    You'll be just fine. ;)

    Interesting tidbit to know.

Just a little FYI: I am dragging a reefer behind me now. I've done both and prefer flatbed over reefer any day, but, the company I'm leased to treats me well, so I suck up the fact that I've downgraded myself and gone to the easy side.

    Why Fbed over reefer anyday?

Mainly because it's what I've done more than anything else, but a lot of it has to do with the fact that, with flatbed freight, you aren't usually dealing with wee-hour-of-the-morning appointments at some cold storage where there's no place to park and you have to dodge idiot megas where you're treated like garbage by the shipper/receiver. Aside from that, and I hate to admit this, reefer isn't bad (Shhh... don't tell wonderdog or ironpony I said that).

Because I'm pushin' 60, and don't intend to get my (insert body part) jacked up falling off the top of a flatbed load. Besides, if you do it right the money is really good.
