I have 3 things to say...

    1. swift is the largest trucking company?? in revenue or sheer size?

    2. I've been working now 18 months and STILL only average 500/week

    3. august 6th is my birthday. I will not be thinking of you on orientation.:biggrin_25512: but have a good one!

    +1 !!

I pass by that terminal every day on my way to class. I go to school at DCTC for truck drivers training. Looks like a nice terminal, but the other posts on this forum towards SWIFT made me strike them off my consideration list.

Let me know how it goes!

I would like to know what to expect from Swift (as a driver's spouse). He completed the Swift academy about a week ago. He is at the Greer, SC terminal right now. I took him there a week ago He is doing the orientation but every time he calls it seems that Swift does not have their crap together (not organized, hurry up and wait, etc.). There were 40 newbies there and as of yesterday only 4 had left the terminal with their mentors! My husband is a hard worker. He just closed his personal business he had for 10 years because of the high gas prices. He loves to work but he has low tolerance for stupidity. Do I need to keep searching for him another job? Any good jobs for older individuals who are new truckers and REALLY want to work?:biggrin_1square10:

Take a look at US EXpress or Schneider they are both really good companies. I just completed orientation here at the Swift Memphis Terminal. Just got my CDL on the 8th from Swift Academy in Millington. They have been very disorganized and orientation was a joke. They could have condensed it down to 2 hours.

I'm also thinking about switching companies but I'm waiting until I have 90 days solo experience or more. If you don't have at least 90 days then you have to go out with a mentor for 3 or 4 weeks (or more) with another company before going solo again. Just tell him to stick it out for awhile.

Also, US Express said they would pay 150/mo to Swift for tuition reimbursement of their $3,900 (at least thats what the recruiter told me but I'm getting it in writing before I make a move - if I go with them).

thestoryteller - Thanks for the post. I have been on this site ALL DAY! I am a bit nervous about this decision my husband has made. I should be hearing from him anytime to let me know if he goes out on the road with his mentor or I have to make the 8 hour round trip drive to pick him up. He didn't drive to the orientaion because he was told by his recruiter that his mentor would be there, ready to pick him up. I have my fingers crossed. I have to say, this site has really opened my eyes. I have A LOT of good information to share with him :)

    I agree with Jack completely.......

If your husband can qualify for Schneider....... that is the best way and place to start!
