I don't know what the deal with Fed-X is, but in the last 3 trips I have seen 6 major wrecks involving thier units. No other vehicles were involved. Looks like they are trying to keep those schedules and not getting any sleep. I understand the good pay of $1.30 a mile to the truck, and the $1.25 a gallon for fuel, but is it worth a life to keep that short haul schedule?. There was a UPS/Overnight that rear ended a car hauler on 95 in VA Wednesday night, I was the first one there and the driver was moving around in the truck, I left when the ambulance got there. Don't know for sure, but looks like another driver fatigue. Just another example of the short haul.
This is what I like about this job, we delivered in LA 6am Sunday morning. Our pick up was in Yuma the next morning, so we drove to Yuma and the company paid for a motel sunday night. We get plenty of good rest when we need it.

WOW I wish I had some experience! BTW, how do you like going up and down that mountain on I8 out of Cali? (if thats the way you went). Drove it from Yuma to San Diego as a trainee. By the time we stopped at the casino at the top of the mountain just outside of SD, I could have pressed diamonds out of my keister. -

Any chance you can get me some contact info? I'm already licensed, but with VERY limited experience. Drove flatbed for TMC for a very short time. How long do you stay out normally? -

If you get through Fontucky, at the TA or one of the truckstops along the 10 corridor, lemme know. There is a new one down the street from me on Valley. The TA in Ontario is $20, but I think it is credited if you fuel up there. Come to the TA or the new Fontana Truckstop (across the street from the SNL terminal) and I'll pick you and the wife up for a home cooked meal and widescreen plasma TV movies.

I just finished up school in Yadkinville NC. This set up sounds a lot like several of the small companies that came out to talk to us most based in Mt Airy NC. They run something to the west coast then bring produce back in reefers. Pay by the trip and its all teams. First 10 trips are with trainers.
google
Cooke Trucking Mt Airy NC
Hardy Brothers
WLA trucking company Mt Airy NC
Pay is $750 or so per week starting out for all team NC to Ca runs. -
The same bunch of companies came to my training mill about a week before graduation trying to win some sympathy. If I remember, they paid about 22 cents per mile total, meaning each driver made 11 cents per mile for every mile the truck moved. This was in 1995, so hopefully they pay a bit more now. One never knows, though.
Produce is something that you need to fireball at times. I'd want no part of that. Also, I run alone unless I'd be running with my wife/girlfriend. No way would I team with another sausage. -
WORD!!!!!
I'd imagine that there could be some dude out there that I could possibly get along with, but ####, I wanna listen to MY music on MY schedule, eat, sleep, poop, and everything on MY schedule. -
Hey LMB I also live in NC and would love to know who the company is your going to work for...good luck
