This is why I'm taking my time deciding to go back on the road. Have been concerned about making lease truck payment with new rules. Am a company driver doing local P/D and LHL in northwest, but really want back on the road permanently. But back to a main question from dieseldust (and admittedly my experience is out of date) you are not gonna have a problem getting home into the Northwest running outta salt lake. In my experience a lot of freight gets re-powered in Salt Lake coming up into northwest especially in winter. This was mainly do to the fact people don't like dealing with Ladd/Meacham/Snoqualmie or the Gorge. And as for Gordon a few of my current co-workers came from them and the ones on dedicated runs (mostly beer) were happy, those not were very unhappy. And as for working for Prime I was happy enough with them 6-7 years ago enough that I reapplied and been accepted, just need to make the final decision to make the jump. Good luck

That just isn't going to fly. ATA, OOIDA and the bigger carriers will all sue to halt it. The morons at Public Nusance will sue to get it, and Congress is threatening to put the entire deal into law. If it does happen rates will go sky-high because of the instant lack of capacity to ship anything - on the company side, the per-mile rate will go up to compensate.
Don't even start worrying about this nonsense until it happens. -
Are there many non smoking trainers or is it hard to get a non smoker for training. Would it be smart to take either just to get trained I hate to be waiting for a trainer when I could be on the road. Also I have a cpap will I need to bring a inverter with me to run it.
-
I would ask for a non-smoking instructor, but make it clear that if one isn't going to come available you'd rather be out running than sitting.
On your CPAP machine:
First, our trucks are equipped with inverters, so AC power is available. You should check to see what your machine's requirements are. If it needs a pure sine-wave for power, then an accomodation will need to be made. I'd *guess* the company would take care of that for you.
Second, your CPAP machine needs to be the kind that has a card that can be read to monitor your CPAP usage. -
Thanks Ironpony: I checked with the company that makes my cpap they said that ill be ok with any inverter or apu that any truck has it will not hurt the machine. As for the trainer thing thats what I was going to tell my recruiter that I didn't want to sit. She has done a lot for be to get approved I appreciate all that she has done

Basser, what make is your cpap machine? I have one also, am in training in SLC right now.Everything is going good, no surprises.7 in class and 3 are former Prime drivers who rehires. Be sure to get a copy of your records from your sleep doctor. I also got a download off my card and had it also. Doc looked them over and was fine with it. Be ready to read, read, and read, then sign, sign, and sign. And then the videos. Day did go by quickly. Will keep you posted.

Got the email today my TWIC card has been approved pick it up this week. Ready to get this new career started I was wandering will I need to bring steel toe shoes with me. The only things I will be bringing are just clothes, sleeping bag, shower gear and my cpap the rest can stay home till I go solo. Is there anything that I will need other then the stuff I mention I dont want to bring anything that I will not need.

Good luck Basser, are you headed to Springfield or SLC ? I am still waiting on my trainer, he should be here on Sun. to get me. He picked up a load in Chicago and is headed to Wash. with it. It took a little longer to get with a trainer because I wanted a non smoker. One plus is his home is in Idaho just a couple miles from my brothers place so when he has home time I can visit. One thing about being the last out the gate is that I had a chance to meet the other trainers as they picked up their trainees and am more convinced that Prime was the right choice. Will keep you posted.
