You will "hear" - mostly 'read,' I would guess - all the bad news about any company. We tend to complain more than we tend to compliment; it's our way. What you make of it is up to you. Don't like what you hear on the CB? Turn it off and drive. Don't like what you read about Werner? Don't read it. Just do what you can do as well as you can.
Your first year with any company is the critical year. Listen, learn, and ask questions. You have to become "known" to those on the other end of the phone and QC; that will happen, one way or another, based on your performance. Make enough waves so "they" will know you are interested in honing your craft. Many people have done well with Werner and the company has been in business a long time; that says something. -
"...heard horror stories..." BFD. You can hear horror stories about any company.
-
Funny thing is...there are some companies that are notorious for bad stories....
Search Werner on this board. Then search other companies about the same size. Werner is by far one of the worst ones.
I highly doubt these stories are made up. If you want to be treated like a 3rd class citizen...work for Werner.
Oh by the way....search "WernerCares" on youtube.... -
Not to mention one of if not the worst paying companies. Add the fact they will tell you the pay and leave out the fact that they pay on a variable pay scale based on length of the load.
-
Nope,be prepared to swap and split every load you have and you;ll be the one sitting and waiting for the next load only to swap that one. You'll get the miles with a trainer because werner pays you students a set salary so they take advantage of the trainees. But be prepared for all that to change once you get qualified and in your own trk.
-
I think OTR is the lowest pay.But regional and dedicated is better. At least you'll know what your check is every week.Problem with Werner is it's too big,too many drivers, too many drop yards and terminals. You're forever swapping every load to get a driver home. The things drivers have to put up with a mega carrier.
