A little background on this.. On my current/previous job I had hurt my shoulder and was off work for almost 3 month since the doc was milking workers comp and even though told him after the first month it wasn't bothering me anymore he kept me on a restricted work status. Well when I started talking to Swift I let them know of this as well as letting them know when I was finallly released to full work with no restrictions. I was sposed to have my final follow up on 7/28 (day after I start with Swift) and had tried to reschedule my appointment a few times with no luck. Anyways.... This morning the recruiter calls and leaves a message saying "I have BAD NEWS"... :biggrin_2551: *thinking greeeaaaattttt current employer has already replaced me and now they are gonna say swift ain't gonna happen* So after about 5 calls I finally get ahold of the recruiter and she says that she forgot about needing a doctors release so I tell her NO PROBLEM I have a copy of my release in my posession.. NOPE that isn't good enough I have to have a copy of a release on SWIFT'S FORM... GREEEAAATTT its Thursday Morning and I am supposed to be leaving on Sunday Morning.. Talk about stress going up !!!

On the brightside.. I called my Dr. Office and tell them of my little dilema as luck has they had a cancellation and there is an opening FRIDAY afternoon !!! and I can bring the form in with me for them to fill out and can then fax back to the recruiter.... I am a KING at procrastination but ummm when it is something that takes tying 2-3 different people together to get information by a MAJOR deadline I don't take too many chances on those LOL !!!

Just thought I would share about the recruiter cutting it close by dropping the ball in informing me of a very important document that I would be needing !!!

ARRRRGGGGHHHHH... Least my current boss will let me tag around to help train the new guy for a couple more weeks !!!!

Got my Doc form filled out and faxed at like 3:30pm... BUT.... The safety department needs to sign off on it before I can go to class and guess what...... THEY ARE IN MEMPHIS !!!!!! Sooooo by the time it got to them they were already gone for the weekend so the choice was go up as scheduled and most likely get booted for not having the safety sign off or wait till the next class (2 weeks from now) sooooo recruiter now has me set up to go in two weeks..

Talk about making my wifes day though LOL told her she gets me home for two more weeks and it was like telling a little kid there is a pony sitting in the back yard for a b-day present LOL...

I do have to admit the recruiter was EXTREMLY apologetic for missing that I needed to be signed off on the medical before it got this close to crunch time.... So we shall see how things go now in two weeks (unless I opt for a different place tween now and then LOL)

Why would you ever tell a company this type of information? If you can't pass a DOT physical don't bother applying of course. I have various health issues but never discussed them with current or potential employers. I had one employer that required a back xray before you could work for them. I found that a bit invasive.

Passing the DOT physical was not a problem for me.. My issue was a injury to my shoulder that happend at work so was on workers comp for 3 months and the reason I had disclosed it was because of the fact that just about any job where they even somewhat look into your medical tend to ask if you have or had any workers comp claims recently. So I mentioned it for two reasons.. 1) they would probably find out anyway and 2) I was leaving my current job within weeks of getting released from light duty work and don't want workers comp to come back and bill me for having paid me while off work for 3 months.... I'm just an honest person that way....

I think it is a private matter even if its work comp. HIPAA is the acronym used all the time. It would be a major lawsuit if your former employer caused you to be denied work.

Well my former employer wouldn't cause me to be denied work.. They are actually very understanding of why I am going elsewhere.. Heck for them being so quick to find my replacement they were actually excited that I got delayed by 2 weeks...

Now if I had a major issue or something like that then I probably wouldn't have mentioned it.. Or if I would have actually have had my final follow up appointment before leaving for training then would have used the don't ask don't tell theory ! But oh well its all good... got the Dr release sent in so it just cost me two weeks but at least current employer let me keep flaggin time so means I'll have an extra paycheck tween starting schooling at swift and getting out with a mentor to start getting the training pay :)

Im just making you aware that a work comp claim is a BIG red flag with most trucking companies. You are no longer meat in the seat when you are sitting at home costing them money. One company I worked for would make you work in the office and fly you home once a month if you were physically capable in order to discourage you from filing a claim. Another company I helped a driver out with a hurt shoulder. They called me after I was done helping him and had the nerve to ask me if he was really hurt. I told them I'm not a doctor and I don't exam coworkers.

    Baack Thanks this.
