Rick glad to see that you were proactive in this....
My dad had prostate cancer and had the prostate removed. He also had some chemo done but his main treatment was a procedure that implanted radioactive "seeds".
He went in for treatment a couple of times a week. The doctors would then use a device that tracked the "seeds'' and irradiated the affected area leaving the healthy tissue alone. Now about year and a half later, he's healthy, working-out, traveling, enjoying his retirement.
My last DOT physical I requested PSA testing with my other blood work. The nurses were puzzled at first because they told me I was too young, 47 at the time. But I told them about my dad and they agreed.
Gonna be a long month

That's right . Generally they start testing men in their 50's . But African Americans and men with a family history of prostate cancer should be tested in their 40's . I read a post in a urology forum by a woman whose father was in his mid-40's . He went to a urologist because he thought he had a urinary infection . Turned out he had prostate cancer that had advance well beyond the curable stage . That's tragic and unusual . He had to have had the cancer before he turned 40 . My urologist told me if I did nothing it could be 7 or 8 months before I saw any symptoms . But I had to do something fairly soon to be cured .
