i have a map, and it works out great for me, but also i am on a dedicated account and i go to the same places alot, lol but when i wasnt dedicated,a map and a cell phone worked good for me. If i go to a new place, i will usually get on google maps and do a close up satellite map of the area.

I guess its one of those "get what ya pay for" things
Speaking with a driver today about his Garmin 7200 and 465T he agrees they make life easier.
It takes 5 min to set a trip(door to door)
Both units have solid reviews from reliable sources,Ive been out here 28 years and never once have I refused all the help I could get,I learn something new "everyday".

    Stupid ? well .........:biggrin_25523:

Right now I have the XL 330 S. I bought that when I first started
so my funds were limited. It's by far NOT the cheapest one but not
the most expensive one either. And when it comes to a GPS you do
    get what you pay for.

I use my Tom Tom in conjunction with my Atlas. I use both to plan my
route, checking the route the GPS gives me against the atlas.

The GPS comes in real handy for things like ETA, letting you see when or
which street is coming up before you get there. That is really good
when in town and you have to turn on a certain street you can see it
before you ever get to it.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Main thing for me now is that, as I am getting older, I can't see the #### street signs at night as well as I used to, and that can be a #####, LOL. I figured with a GPS, I would at least have an idea when the next turn is coming up.

That "June" system seems like a good deal, I will probably go with that, thanks.

Don't forget that CoPilot now has a stand alone truck GPS unit. I've seen 'em at the J, TA, and Loves.

A GPS is a handy tool but not near as reliable as the RandMcnally Atlas. If you are going to get one, make sure you can put trucker's software in it so that it will not route you onto restricted roads.

To be quite honest, save yourself the few hundred bucks and get yourself a Microsoft Streets and Trips for your laptop, and get the version with a GPS receiver.

Those drivers who have Co-Pilot and whatever other 'trucker' GPS are out there on the market, migth or might not tell you, that even with all the 'trucker' goodies turned on, eventually the GPS will still lead you down a 'low clearence' road with a 12' 9" on it. And its 50/50 whether you're paying enough attention to it or not...the sign, not the GPS.

So, seeing how i pretty much want the GPS to know what street i'm about to cross, and i set up my route on it to exactly match my fuel route, i didnt/dont need to blow $500-600, just to beat my chest in a truck stop, and show everybody how big a waste of money i am.

Work smarter, not harder. and working to pay off a $500-600 GPS, when a $80 version does the same job....thats just dumb.
