Sweet! You will like that, bottom deck is big enough to not even worry about load levelers. I dont carry any levelers. Now the next question. Is it all aluminum, steel and aluminum or steel and wood?

If you don't mind a little physical work and getting dirty you will like it. The customers are soooo much better than those you have been dealing with the last 22 years. Good luck and enjoy.

...mmmm, 53 foot drop deck 'upper 10' would actually be 11' .... 11' top 42' bottom deck.... and if it is a spread axle don't jack it around in a U turn too sharp with a load on top deck as it has a tendacy to turn over when you do that :)

Do you have your truck set up with a dump valve switch? Great for a spread axle on trailer. Helps in getting arournd turns and backing in.

Why would a 42' make it big enough to not need load levelers?
I use my load levelers, when in an area with only flat bed freight but will accept drop decks with levelers because they have 48' long freight like I-beams.
Also my levelers are ramps so I can load and haul vehicles which is great. Many times got that special load because having ramps.
But then to much equipment can get one heavy and hurt pay load.

Thats why I dont carry them, too much stuff makes it too heavy. 42 ft is plenty for 40 ft pipe or a 40 ft can. I havent met anything yet that I need them for. Nice to have, just dont need them

    SHC Thanks this.

I do really good with my 48' step. There are less than a handfull of times that I wished I had a 53. Not near enough need for one in my opinion for the extra weight they have over a 48.

    SHC Thanks this.

48' I-beams fit just fine on a 42' deck. Just flag the overhang. You are still under 53' long so no need for permits.

I think you will do just fine with a 48' step deck as well. Most things that will go only onto a step are tall, which is why they require a step. You'll be fine
