even with the pension being cut, it will still be something. with the money you will be making, you can throw some into a 401 as well. get a copy of your contract from your steward, so you know what pays what, and what the rules are, as well. you might get a free pair of boots, or a boot allowance, on top of other things, like roving holidays, etc....
Good deal for first year in tanking?

Oh I read through it they pay for just about everything. TWIC, 50% of license renewel including hazmat renewel, and passport. I didn't see anythig in there about boots or apparel but I'm home early today I might take another glance at it. The stuff I mentioned was just off the top of my head.
With that being said, can you still get ssi? Or does a pension cut that out and also yes, you are right about 401k. I'm 26 years old I have just a truck and soon to be house payment saving up money is next on the list after I build my foundation. I could save a pretty decent coin if they stay Union and I stay here which I don't see myself leaving anytime soon.
It's kind of like opposite here. I'll get a run here and there and a back haul with QC cause they're more regional unless your covering a load for another terminal. This is why I'm home a lot and so far only one Sunday for time and a half on(12 hours @ 17.42) on top of mileage pay for the day because lots of guys(20 to be exact) are higher seniority then me so they get to choose how their weeks starts. A lot of guys leave Saturday and Sunday end their week. Every Friday dispatch calls you to ask what you want and some times a load comes my way but for the most part I've been home every weekend and home some nights. this job is deffiantly what I feel as the cream of the crop idk what could be better? I'm getting a raise mileage and hourly every year....and QC needs drivers so bad my shop steward said he doesn't ever see this terminal going non Union. That's 23 guys walking away because who wants to just get mileage pay....been there done that never again!Last edited: Jun 9, 2015

yep, you will be fine, I almost took that same job over here in beefalo, they have 2 union drivers over here as well. just think of yourself as the "last of" the chemical leaman drivers. that's what you are, in reality, that's why they are still union. its cheaper to employ people than to get out of the union, which costs a lot of money. plus, being union, it attracts a lot of drivers, so they get a good recruitment pool, since its a high paying job...

btw, that job is cream of the crop, no one ever quit chemical leaman to go to swift or werner! you have a better job than 90% of the ppl that post on here, and don't you forget it!

People always hate on the union man but I tell you best job I ever had. Haven't even hit full pay scale yet, which is $27 we work 4/10's time and a half after 40 and I can get all the OT I want since only shifts are seniority bid not the OT love it. Good benefits and awesome 401k.
already gone Thanks this. -
Well if your in the area they're looking for 5-8 more drivers. Cause QC is trying to expand more

Hang tough G....some folks didn't like Ronnie.........

Unions are the folks that brought you weekends. They certainly had their place in the workforce.
JMOblairandgretchen and Cali kid Thank this. -
Just finished CDL school. I have an interest in driving tankers. Is Albany the only union shop for the company?
-
No, some other terminals are, as well. If you work directly for qc, you're usually a teamster, an affiliate co., usually not....
RCC2015 Thanks this.
