in response to CHIEF. I pay the drivers 30% of linehaul to the truck. I think that is a good % for having no monetary stake or risk in the operation. i wish i could pay the drivers more but as you must know there is a certain cost of doing business that cannot be avoided. as to turn over, my drivers average about 7-8 monthes with me.it takes that long for the state child support agency to find them, and they quit rather than man up and take responsibility for their children. or they decide they can live on $300 a week and don't drive over that amount,2days driving-1day off-2days driving-deadhead home on my fuel for the weekend. you may have a good thing going but i'm sure it wasn't easy to find. don't assume that all employers are taking advantage of their workers. as you know it is always the companies fault when a driver leaves. i pay what the industry will support and i expect the driver to be willing to work to the best of his ability. i treat every man as fairly as they treat those around them. i would not hesitate to supply any new driver with contact info on any man that has worked for me.
good drivers

I'm not one of them though...and he didn't send me a PM with any info (freight base, who he's leased to, equipment, etc.)
Oh well...guess he's not interested in an experienced driver that has secured just about everything that can be loaded on a flat bed (including oversize loads and step deck freight)
Maybe I'm not in his hiring area... -

Compared to other outfits, 30% is pretty reasonable. BTI for example tops out at around 27%. But, you have to ask -- i know that you're leased to another carrier, so are you paying the drivers 30% of the 70% that the carrier is giving to you?

i will work for you. i want a job don't care how long i'm out where i go what i haul just a job!

again chief, sounds like weird schedule but driver makes it that way. sleeps in till noon monday,2pm calls dispatch wondering if theres a load at end of his driveway paying 3.00 mile, accepts load 75 miles away for 2.00 mile on 300 miles that picks up at 7am tues.leaves house at 8am tues picks up 3 hrs late at 10am. drives his butt off to deliver load late on wed. too tired to call dispatch till 4pm wed. accepts load at 1.50 mile loading thurs am(that he also loads late) cause it gets him within 100 miles of home for weekend.deadheads home on my fuel to start cycle over on mon am. doesn't answer phone all week till friday morning looking for cash. this usually starts after a few monthes of good running to catch up on his bills and personal finances. you seem to be pretty good at math so run these numbers for a coupla weeks and tell me whats wrong with the equation.
