The Pilot in Milford, CT, just off I-95.
The TS itself is nothing to brag about (in fact, it can be a real headache trying to find parking). But every afternoon this guy with the handle of "Big D" comes up on channel 19. He drives a minivan around the lot and sells home-cooked meals he prepared himself: things like pepper steak and rice, beef stew, stuff like that. And the food is good enough to make a grown man cry. His ribs always fall right off the bone! The iced tea and cheesecake are also not to be missed. And, for $10.00 a plate, you can get enough food to feed two people easily.
I normally HATE Pilots, but this guy's cooking makes the stop well worth the trouble.
good eats along the way....

Woody's in Centerville, TX, I 45 and Highway 7, I forget the exit number. Really good BBQ. Brisquit melts in your mouth. Dinning room is benches. Truck parking on the hill behind, so watch how you park or the blood will rush to your head if you stay overnight. On the other side of the highway is their diesel fuel for big trucks. Reasonably priced with additional parking and showers.

Ever try the free 72 oz. steak in Amarillo? -
Nope, because it ain't gonna be free for me. I can't eat that much any more (over-the-hill 5'10" 185 lbs). About 36 oz is my personal limit, 20 oz being just the right portion.
Also you have to consume shrimp ####tail as a part of the deal and I don't do sea food.
