Yes, you can make money as an L/P and make good money. I did it for several years. But as you understand most are not designed for you to purchase the truck, just roll into another lease.

I have not seen any of these programs that you can own the truck at the end that seem to work out well. And I did a lot of research before going the route that I went. Now there may be some out there but I have not seen them.

I will give a good representative example: An '05 Century at JB Hunt, with 500,000 miles, fleet spec was going to be over $35k. I could find the same truck in the mid-20k range. And then they wanted $.12 per mile maintance contract plus all the other things they ding you with. Payments with insurance and everything elses was $400 range per week plus $.18-.20/mile in various charges.

You can get a better rig from Loan Mtn with a couple of grand down and lease to a company that will pay you better and help you out if you get in mechanical trouble. I hate seeing people do that but that seems to be a better route than being on the hook for a high mile, low spec truck and at the mercy of what they give you.

With the Loan Mtn route, you are only on the hook if you have to tap them for repair money.

    Good luck
