Picked up a load there that delivers in Ontario ca thurs. Morning.
When I you d the trailer in dropyard, a day cab was parked in front of it.was backed I but not hooked.
Called dl and he said he call the driver. Thwn another day cab guy drove in and I asked him and he said they drop keys off at the guardshack. Good. Didn't want to waste too much time since I needed to get back here so I can get a 34 in.
Traffic was pretty good coming hereFerrissWheel Thanks this. -
IA along US 61 a bit north of Davenport.
I'll be sitting for Christmas day, so I'll get a 34 in.
The place I stopped at has a Walmart across the street. That was nice since I needed some stuff.
Also nice is that this Kwik-Stop is open 24/7/365. So many small places are closed for Christmas.FerrissWheel and dptrucker Thank this. -
Yeah it's hard to find places open on xmas sometimes.
I think the Petro is having a Xmas buffet. So I will check that out tomorrowFerrissWheel Thanks this. -
The turkey always seems to be dry and stringy, even though it is sitting in a watery something.
I think they cook everything days in advance and then try to bring back the freshness by soaking it.
And unless you get there at exactly the right time, everything else seems to be a bit off as well.
They never do mashed potatoes right, and there is never any real turkey gravy. It is that standard beef over salted crap.
Cook it, cut it up, freeze it... then try to get some moisture back in to it.
That never works.
When I get home I can prepare a proper turkey dinner.
That always works for everyone.FerrissWheel, dptrucker and dwells40 Thank this. -
I had the thanksgiving buffet at the Petro in Medford or and it was good.
But you can't beat homecook meal.
But I don't have that optionFerrissWheel and dwells40 Thank this. -
FerrissWheel Thanks this.

To be fair, it is very difficult to do a buffet like that in a small restaurant.
I appreciate the effort they go to trying to give us something like a holiday meal, but I don't think it can be done well in that setting.
J.I.T.
When I cook a big turkey dinner it takes most of the day.
And at the end, everything comes to fruition pretty much in the last minutes if I want everything to be fresh and hot.
And that is just doing it for a few people at one meal time.
We can not expect that kind of food from a truck stop, and I don't think they should even try.
It is a failed effort from the beginning.FerrissWheel Thanks this. -
Wasn't that bad. Got there right around 1400. They started at 1100. Was not that much turkey left.
Better than fast food.FerrissWheel and Moosetek13 Thank this. -
