Didn't make it out of Sam's Club til after 6:00 am. At least my 11:00 am live load went well, in and out in 30 minutes. I wish I could say the same about the Dollar Tree DC. Without a doubt the worst DC I've ever been to. Trash piled up EVERYWHERE to include any MT trailer. The guard told me I could take any 12 series or older trailer. So after 15 minutes of searching I settled on an 11 series, cleaned it out (2 pallets, 2 load lock, and a mountain of trash) and headed for the gate. The new guard proceeds to tell me I can't take that new a trailer. I repeat to him what the first guard told me (she had since gone home), tell him that I spent 15 minutes just cleaning it out, and that it was attached to my truck and I was dispatched with it. He finially gave up and let me go.
Picking up a pallet load in the morning (from Dollar General, the ONLY reason I'd go near one of their DCs) headed to OKC then a Hobby Lobby load to Idaho. I know that my lovely wife would prefer that I NOT haul Hobby Lobby loads (politics) but if it gets me back west I'll do it.
The past 24 hours is the first time in a while that I felt like the planners/ECTs were actually doing their job. Instead of ignoring me after I turned a load (actually ignored 1 and turned down 2) they kept planning me until I found something that would work for me. Then this morning while I was trying to sleep they sent me a stack which I didn't see for 90 minutes. I was suprised to see both still on me after that amoujnt of time. Maybe the fact I was in "the sleeper berth" had something to do with it. Anyway, nice to see people actually doing their job instead of playing games or trying to "teach the driver a lesson" crap that seem to happen ALL THE TIME!

Here in Santa Rosa, NM. Picked up this 2k load and thanks to the winds still, 7.3mpg. Steve, you mention the planners, they can kiss my #$$. This load was going to t-call in Phoenix tomorrow night. Instead today they say that I need to take it all the way. The reason given, and get this, they have no one there at the terminal that can cover it the rest of the way to Colton, due anytime on Wednesday. So asked my DM, can then stack me out or I will BT back to Phoenix. No, they had nothing, and at that time, Command sends me a message. Tell them what I need and 30 minutes later, pick up a 5k load 4 miles from where I mt and deliver to Peyton Foods at 0800 on Thursday. Pays $1.60/mi. Then my DM and I had a nice talk and I told him that it was BS. In all the time that I have been wit IGH how many times have I ever been allowed to t-call a load at the Columbus terminal when home time and the answer, never. Been made to deliver up to 200 miles and run mt home and how many times have I been asked to pick up a t-called load at a terminal because a little too much time on it or because they had home time. Too many to count. Never again will I pick up a t-called load at a terminal unless many miles still on it. Forget going to CA from the Phoenix yard, and if they ask why, I sure will tell them.
The only reason that I got this load to OKC and CA, ECT at IGH. Sure was not the planners or my DM.sisterannie Thanks this. -

At my favorite little Indie just past the LA state line on I-10E coming out of TX.
Came off 4 days of home time at 5am Sunday morning and went to the terminal in Houston. Got an impossible load, turned it down, and took a nap while waiting for another. Mac30 was mty as usual. About 8am I get a "please help me" from a familiar planner in Lancaster with a promise to give me anything I want afterwards. From past experiences I normally would've blown off the request but this planner has never screwed me over so I said sure I'll help out.
She had a tcalled load in the Houston yard needing a Monday 06:30 live unload at the infamous, notorious and all round ####ty Kroger DC down the street. I chose an 18K lb load to IN that I could finish Wednesday morning to follow it. Went home and enjoyed another day off.
Picked up the tcall and headed to Krogers where true to form it took those fools 6hrs to unload 12 pallets of paper plates making me very late to pick up my live load to IN from Pasadena. The tcall to Kroger was also on a 14' trailer so I'd have to go dump it at the terminal and find a newer one to go to Pasadena. Wonderful!!
Finally got out of Krogers, swapped trailers and got down to Pasadena 7 hours late. Took them 2 hours to load me. THEN I found out when I get the paperwork that the load was 44K lbs instead of 18K. WTF!!
Now I have to fool with scales in rush hour getting out to the freeway. Decided to blow off Swifts routing and go my own way.
The only good thing about the day was being able to sit down to some yummy chicken and sausage gumbo at the end. Tuesday HAS to be better..I hope. -

Hey Mr. B!!
After spending 30 years in the N'Awlins urban jungle & another 6 in Houston with concealed carry permits I favor the Sig P229 with an interchangeable .357 & 40 cal barrel equipped with a Crimson Trace pressure sensitive laser. I also have a pair of TEC-9s from the 80's with six 32-round clips and flash muzzles. A pal in the NOPD modified them for me to empty those clips Miami Vice style (I keep those puppies in a safe these days). My only "long gun" is an assault version of the Mossberg 590 with a pistol grip for "home defense". Picked it up before they were banned. These days I use it to dispose of old CDs and the occasional Armadillo digging up my backyard.
Hope all goes well with your transition!! -

The dreaded "Swift stacked load curse" bit me AGAIN!
The idiots at Dollar General loaded pallets into a roll up door trailer. They couldn't get the door closed so the stuck it in the yard. Since I couldn't get the door closed (and absolutely REFUSE to deal with the DG DC) I grabbed my MT, gave the bills back to the guard and left. Now I'm waiting for Swift to remove the load and dispatch me on my next load. -
In Texas on a 48. Picking up in San Antonio this afternoon, and expect to drop off in Camp Hill, PA (near Harrisburg) before the pay week cutoff tomorrow night. 4600 miles this week, with a couple of short hauls for good measure.
I had my first encounter with *trying* to get an empty out of Lancaster. We bobtailed out after an hour... Anyone know of a reliable place to find an empty between Austin and San Antonio?
