One of the biggest complaints with driving a truck is how much you get paid versus how much time you put in on the deal.
Actual hours paid by the mile, minus load and unload times, detention, cleaning out a trailer, low ball on miles because of picking up in the same city but 30 miles away... the list goes on.

And then I see figures from O/O and L/O like these, where you spend even more time calculating all the variables.
You have to do this each and every day, figuring the best fuel stops based on many factors, your mt miles versus loaded, all the taxes, etc..

And it seems, at best, that you might be just a bit plus each week over a company driver.
Again it seems, I really don't see the point in leasing a truck. Too much time involved in all the figuring.

    Peterbilt of springfield, springfield, MO.

We had a deer strike coming into springfield at about 3:30 am so now I'm in the shop. Parts are on order, down for 5 days. Been waiting on a repower to show up all day, might get here tonight...

You do realize that if you violate your 70 the only fix is a reset.

That's an issue for a lot of operators ... the devil is in the details, it's not for everybody.

For me personally, doing those things is like breathing and is part of the challenge that makes this job interesting. I couldn't be a company driver, it would send me over the deep end.

    Moosetek13 and spectacle13 Thank this.

Yes, and I rarely push it to that limit.
Today and yesterday, however, came to that.
Today it was the 35 speed limit going down the hill. Otherwise I would have had 5 more minutes. And that is even too close by far
Yesterday I was in San Diego where there is NO place to park legally that I know of. I had to make it to Otay Mesa. And I did with 2 minutes to spare.

I could have stopped at the J 15 minutes earlier, but then I would have had to pay for the shower that I really needed. Yes, it would have been worth it if I had violated the 70, but I got in just under the wire.

If it hadn't been for the random drug test I would have been in a much better situation. That took nearly an hour of time out of my reserve.

There, but for the grace of God, go I.
It seems He is watching out for me, even though I have been trying ignoring Him.
    Go figure.

You are still young, I guess.
I don't find anything interesting any more.
Sad, I know. But there it is.

For all that I know and understand, for all that I suspect and conjecture... I really don't even care any more.
There is nothing new under the sun, after all. It has all been done before, and will only repeat again and again until...
    There is only One.

So yes, the Devil is in the details.
