My Condolences to both Frank and the family. Presently in Jane Lew, WV. I remember today why I always avoid I-68.

I drove I-68 for the first time 2 weeks ago at 77,000 lbs. Beautiful road, not a level stretch on the entire length. According to my GPS a bit over 50 miles further than the PA turnpike (departed Lancaster PA headed west on I-70) and due to the up and down nature only managed 5.4 MPG. So assuming the same MPG on the pike (and I'm sure it would have better) I used over $50.00 extra fuel avoiding the turnpike. No way the tolls are that high.

PA turnpike toll calculator. If you want to avoid I68, the usual deal is to run it from New Stanton to Breezewood.

Cash is $43.70, ez-Pass is $37.13 - so you'll save some money and a lot of time on the turnpike. The only time I take I68 is when I'm pulling hazmat prohibited in the tunnels.

I took I-68 because I'm a company driver and did what I was told (fuel route). Next time I'll follow the GPS and save the time.
