I avoid terminals like an unidentifiable rash so I don't get to fill up my jugs very often. Actually after my first month I've had the same oil and wwash jugs as emergency back-ups and never use them. I buy whatever I need for the truck and scan the receipt with the note "truck supplies" and have always been reimbursed. I bought oil, w/wash, gloves, glass cleaner, w/w blades, degreaser and tandem pin sexlube (liquid wrench) at Walmart and got reimbursed for all of it. My truck uses a gallon of oil every 3000 miles unless I am light loaded and able to short shift which would be 5 gallons for the last loop out of Laredo. All of the truck stops have Rotella so why lug it from the shop to the truck?

In places like PHX or Fontana, DFW I'd rather be at a terminal than the unsafe truckstop. If I feel safe at a truck stop I'd go there instead of a terminal. I'm not too keen on being in big cities. Never know what is around the next corner.

Fred will be spending the night in Indianapolis tonight, and tomorrow, he's picking up a load going to Grandview, WA. He's so excited. This is his first run all the way to the west coast. Can someone tell me about these special Idaho permits or if he will even need one to drive straight through on 84?
fr8monkey Thanks this. -
Idaho requires permits for hazmat - $10 at the first scale you encounter. Its rather more expensive at the second, LOL! Make sure Fred toes the line on his hours of service in the ID, OR, WA area. They do things like check when you crossed the last scale, then compare that with when you arrived at the next scale and your logbook.

Wilma, he's in for a fun trip with some fantastic scenery including the Cabbage descent which is a kick. He should trip plan to run daylight if he can. The special permit for Idaho is if he will be going north/south on 95 which would be one of the routes from Lewiston to Boise. Going through on the interstate will not require any extra permits except Hazmat as ironpony mentioned. (He will need to be careful with his speed. For example Oregon is 55mph but he can get away with 58-60mph but not much more.) Grandview is in south, central Washington. Is he going to the Walmart DC?

You're heading for a speeding ticket up there A21... just so ya know.

I know but I sometimes think a speeding ticket on the interstate in a Swift company truck would be a cool thing to have framed. On the other hand...
FrankWilma Thanks this. -
Thanks so much. Yes, Frank. He is going to the Walmart DC. Anything in particular he needs to try to work into the schedule if he has an opportunity to sight see?
A21CAV Thanks this. -
I think Injun runs out of Grandview. He needs to try and meet her, she is an excellent resource and a great person to get to know. She is a lease op driving a copper colored pro star with Taiowa Transportation on the door. She leases onto Swift of course.
