DH or MT miles cost (as in lose, do not add to profit) you money. Swift only pays $.81 per mile MT or DH. At first glance this doesn't seem too bad as it costs about $.45-.50 per mile to run MT (for fuel). Problem is Swift deducts whatever you maintaince stipend is from that amount PLUS these miles add towards your 11,000 a month limit.

Example: You contribute $.10 a mile to your maintaince account and you happen to have a good month and run 12,000 miles. Assuming you ONLY ran 1,000 MT miles you would actually only collect $.62 a mile for those MT miles ($.81-$.10-$.09=$.62). Do you see the problem now?

Swift should pay AT LEAST $1.00 per MT mile OR pay fuel rebate for those miles. JMHO!

 

I'm willing to bet if Swift paid for the mt/DH miles the l/o and o/o would be willing to take more loads and cause less greif with the planners! How much is that headache worth to the powers that be?

My son is a newbie and in mentor training right now and is planed to be in AZ for flatbed training on the 9th of DEC. So I've been picking brains for him, for two reasons (1) to get as much info as I can (2) I retired early and he/we are thinking about l/o and teaming up... .. I drove flat's back in the 80's and had a cdl ( a) for my job with the R.R......Tell me about the 11,000 mile limit. thanks . .................

 

Anything over 11,000miles a month subtract .09/mile out of your settlement and that goes towards your ballon payment, if you so choose to purchase your truck at the end of the lease. (I think, I'm not an L/O but tend to catch a few tidbits here and there)

 

Effectively the overmilage fund is yours to spend with IEL. The only way you can lose it, is to leave the comapany or buy your next truck from outside. If you chose to lease again, the overmilage balance roll to your new truck. If you chose to buy your current truck or any other truck from IEL, the overmilage will go to the down payment.
