Covington, tn. On my way home finally. Only 4 days late, due to breakdown. As far as computer, $200 for a tech to clean this virus. I have been told by a few, unless really tech savy, not to try and clean this virus. New toshiba, $279

    Moosetek13 Thanks this.

a lot of times you can find decent tutorials that can help a non techy out, they just want your money so of course they will say people should not do things. This might be true for some, do you know where you got the virus from? I might of missed it but which virus is it?

So far I have only had 1 virus and it was some money FBI scam one, it filled the screen with this FBI anti piracy thing, in order to unlock my computer I was to buy a moneycard from Walmart and send them $250 and if I did not react soon they would be coming for me and pressing charges for piracy......

I went into safe mode and tracked down every hidden file they created and after several hours I finally got it completely gone but man it was a pain...

Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike Otay mesa? 2 hours for me to finally get a shower, one guy hogged it for over a hour doing god knows what...
This morning I try to get an mt and the guy told me there was no plan so no mt for me, i called the DM who said he added a note to my truck that I need new trailers for Walmart to take north, I go inside to tell the guy my DM put a note on my truck and to read it, his reply "I dont give a #### about your note, no plan then no mt thats the rule" I thought wow this guy is a jerk, called the DM again and now the DM is getting mad and demanded who the hell was behind the desk. Finally the DM made a plan just to get me out of there, DM told me to work Adelanto tomorrow while he sorts out this Otay mesa issue.

Shut down at the Pilot in Hesperia right now

Just wipe hard drive. And reinstall windows or mountain lion or what ever the new OS for mac is. Its the only way to be sure that virus is gone. As long as you back up your hard drive regularly all is good

That is unless one of the data files you backed up has the virus, and you open it again.
    ...

    Then you get infected again.

the biggest thing is to be careful what your downloading and opening, people download files they shouldnt. I have seen people download what they thought was a movie with an exe in there and of course like idiots they open it...same with images etc. Or someone goes to open something and it says it requires a certain file to open....people download that file...

If you dont know what your getting then dont do it, I scan through stuff carefully when I download and I stick with reputable places to get my stuff such as a private torrent site im part of.

Well, these are the days of casual and ignorant users.
They don't know, or care, how anything actually works. They just want to press buttons to get what they want - no thinking required.

Windows 8 promotes this way of thinking IMO.

a lot of people are idiots indeed when it comes to computers, not so much these days since im on the road so much but I was the go to guy in my family for computer problems. I have connected to a couple computers remotely for things including my wifes grandmothers laptop she had issues with. I never believed in paying a techy a bunch of money to fix something you can learn to do yourself. Or the fact like mentioned above...$200 repair bill and its almost as much as getting a new one.

My ex wife had a lot of anger issues and she used to break stuff...one day she broke the pin for my charge port and when I went to get it repaired they told me I would have to replace the whole motherboard and with fees etc it was $450, I said nope I will wait to buy a new one. In the meantime I opened up my laptop and hard wired my charger to it which worked for awhile until i was able to afford the laptop I have at this moment which has been going strong since 2010.

Side note does win 8 even provide safe mode and stuff?

It's the default interface that's so bad in Win8. It's designed for a tablet or phone.
Get past that, and you have the same OS options as previous versions.

Out of the box Win8 doesn't even give you the Start menu. No Admin Tools, even Control Panel is hard to get to.

I installed Start8 from Stardock, which restores the Start Menu functions and allows you to boot directly to the desktop. So it is more like Win7 now.
I can find the things I need easily.

I haven't tried to get to Safe Mode, though. Guess I'll have to try, now that you mentioned it.

stardock hmmz will have to look into that, my wife has win 8 and she hates it so maybe I might do the same for her to get the old feel back. I could install another os on hers but I just havent bothered.

From what I understand they created that interface just because the tablets and phones were taking off and it seemed to be what people liked. Nope you buy a tablet for the functions, you buy a computer for other functions but when you try to inter twine them then thats when we get that sorry win 8

    http://www.stardock.com/

    Check it out.
They have some cool programs, and some great games.

    Start8 is only $5.

    Another good one is WindowBlinds.
It lets you change the look and feel of Windows with different skins.
