i wouldn't take 80. Wyoming can't decide if it's going to be open or closed. Your gambling with that route.
76 down to denver, 25 to 40 to 15. Best chance of no weather. OR, cheyenne to denver and albquerque. But i wouldn't go past cheyenne.
I'd avoid 80 and 70 altogether.
GOOD OLE TRIP PLAN ?

Me running team Circa 1998 in Los Angeles.
Dispatcher: I have this hot load for you guys to Toronto, but I don't know which way you can go. I-80 has a blizzard going on, I-40 has freezing rain.
Me: That's no problem, we'll take 70.
D: What, nobody takes I-70 in the winter time.
Me: Yeah, that's why it's a good way to go, less traffic.
Worked out great. They were calling for five inches around Vale but we got through before it hit.Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
i dont like Vail in august

Stay off 54 if there's any chance of snow. That highway is dangerous enough in summertime.
-
everyone has a different road to hate
-
Take the 25 down and cut across on the 84 down to 40. that'll save a few miles.
-
Here's my next 3 stops. I'm sitting at the McDs in Austin, TX. Got to load in Dallas.
Colorado Springs
Denver
SLC
Who thought this up?
The question, THE question, IS;
Do I DH up there tonight, cause I know there be no where to park when I get there.

I took 80 and it was a breeze compared to 70. The sign posted near salt lake that says no trucks above 45 mph made me have to cool down for bout an HR but else was np.
driverdriver Thanks this. -
The only hill to worry about is Elk Mountain on I-80 West of Cheyenne and if it is clear it's a breeze. Chaining is a breeze when it is done right. You should have a cam key to tighten your chains and 2 bungees for each wheel or spider bungees. Max speed should be 25 to 30 mph. Sometimes the shortest route is not the most feasible route. Short cuts can sometimes lead to many problems. Stick to the interstate if at all possible and don't travel at night during the winter.
The sequels to this video are found on YouTube
Update: I meant Sherman Pass east of Laramie, not Elk Mountain. But if he's going west I would stay the hell off I-70 for sure.Last edited: Jan 24, 2016
